   Marjon，with her husband Pieterjan，had just landed on the Spanish island of Mallorca for the dream wedding of their daughter Iris.Marjon's mother Bets was 84 years old，but she wasn't in the best of health，so the family had brought along a nurse，Theunissen，to help her.
   They walked out of the airport at around 6 p.m.and into a rental car.As they crossed the hilly landscape，the evening was drawing in and rain was falling heavily.
   They didn't expect that the rainfall had already reached dangerous levels.They drove up the winding road around 804 metres into the hills when，without warning，a wave of dirty，fast-moving water washed over the top of it.
   Within seconds，the torrent（激流） lifted the little white car into the river and sent it moving down the hillside.It all happened so quickly that Marjon and her family were too shocked even to scream.
   Marjon felt water moving round her feet and looked down.Muddy brown flood water was pouring into the car and rising quickly.Sitting in the front seat with her mother's nurse，Marjon knew they all had to get out quickly before the water rose too high in the car and they all drowned.
   Forcing the front door open，Marjon jumped into the flood.Theunissen followed.Marjon took the back door handle and tried to open the door to reach Pieterjan and Bets sitting in the back seat，and she used all her strength to pull the door open.She pulled Pieterjan and Bets between the two front seats and out of the car.The four of them clung to（抓住不放） the back of the car as the water，now at chest height，rushed over them.They screamed for help.
   Miquel came out of his summer house.It was now past 7 p.m..Lightened up by the lightning，Miquel could make out a car in the flood water.Suddenly，he heard screams coming from 30 metres or more out into the torrent.His brother Gento heard the screams，too，and they rushed out to the spot.Miquel and Gento started into the water and towards the car to look for the sound.
