    Dear Alfred,
I want to tell you how important your help is to my life.
Growing up,I had people telling me I was too slow, though, with an IQ of 150+ at 17,I'm anything but stupid. The fact was that I was found to have ADHD(注意力缺陷多動(dòng)障礙).Anxious all the time,I was unable to keep focused for more than an hour at a time.
However, when something did interest me,I could become absorbed. In high school,I became curious about the computer, and built my first website. Moreover,I completed the senior course of Computer Basics, plus five relevant pre-college courses.
While I was exploring my curiosity,my disease got worse.I wanted to go to college after high school, but couldn't.So,I was killing my time at home until June 2012 when I discovered the online computer courses of your training center.
Since then,I have taken courses like Data Science and Advanced Mathematics.Currently,I'm learning your Probability course.I have hundreds of printer paper, covered in self-written notes from your video. This has given me a purpose.
Last year,I spent all my time looking for a job where, without dealing with the public,I could work alone, but still have a team to talk to.Luckily,I discovered the job-Data Analyst-this month and have been going full steam ahead.I want to prove that I can teach myself a respectful profession, without going to college, and be just as good as,if not better than,my competitors.
Thank you. You've given me hope that I can follow my heart. For the first time,I feel good about myself because I'm doing something, not because someone told me I was doing good.I feel whole.
This is why you're saving my life.
    Yours,
    Tanis

  • 2.Today companies have branches around the world.More than 11% of the US employers and employees work online either full-time or part-time,and that number is continuing growing. It is believed that it is a waste of time and money to fly around the world for face-to-face meetings. An effective solution to this problem is to use Web meetings.
A large group of presentations, training classes and meetings are done online without losing the face-to-face experience.Web meetings are online meetings where an organizer invites attendees to listen to or watch an online presentation by presenters.Besides,Web meetings can be recorded for later use in presentations or training projects or downloaded for on-demand playback.
Presenters can take real-time surveys to study how to hold a successful meeting. Some Web meeting software programs can monitor the users' desktop behavior to see if they become distracted from the presentation and begin working on other documents. If so,the program can tell presenters when the listeners lose their attention, and how long the distraction lasts. In this way,the presenters will know which parts of their meetings need improving.
Web meetings can work well because they're hosted on a server (服務(wù)器).Images from the presenter's desktop are taken, uploaded to a server and then downloaded by people who have access to the server.Web meetings require a powerful server to deal with several images a second and "serve" them back to thousands of users at the same time.
Companies have two choices when it comes to these servers. They can either buy a special Web meeting server to host their meetings on-site,or they can pay for a Web meeting service every time and let the off-site provider worry about hosting the meetings. The choice depends on how frequently the company holds Web meetings, the average number of people attending the meetings, and the quality of engineering and information technology.
Web meetings are an excellent example of how technology is changing the way we do business. With all the technologies today, the traditional office might soon be a thing of the past.

A.It needs more people to organize it.
    B.It is expensive and time-consuming.
C.It results in traffic accidents frequently.
D.It fails to meet the demands of big companies.
(2)How do some Web meeting software programs help improve the meetings?

    A.By presenting successful documents.
B.By recording the frequency of distraction.
C.By tracking the listeners' state of attention.
D.By taking surveys about a successful meeting.
(3)What do you know about Web meetings according to the text?

A.Web meetings are likely to be widely used.
B.Web meetings help presenters stay focused.
C.Web meetings determine the quality of engineering.
D.Web meetings work well without the help of a server.
(4)What is the writer's attitude towards Web meeting?

    A.Positive.
    B.Negative.
    C.Doubtful.

  • 3.Smartphones,tablets and smart watches are banned at school for all children under 15 in France.Under the ban students are not able to use their phones at all during school hours, including meal breaks.
"I think it's a good thing.School is not about being on your phone," Paris mum Marie-Caroline Madeleine told AFP. "It's hard with kids. You can't control what they see and that's one of the things that worries me as a parent."
There is no law like this in Australia, but some Australian schools have banned phones.McKinnon Secondary School in Victoria introduced a total ban in February and Principal Pitsa Binnion said this has been a success.McKinnon students still have a Chromebook to use in every class for day-to-day learning but they're not allowed to use social media.Ms.Binnion said at first "teachers cheered and students moaned(抱怨)," but now they're seeing the positives(優(yōu)勢(shì)). "They come to school and they're not allowed to use phones at all during the school day, including lunch breaks," she said.
"It's been wonderful as for students communicating with each other at lunchtime and not looking at their screen," Ms.Binnion said.She also leads by example and doesn't use her mobile phone in school. "I think anyone can do it if we've done it."
Not everyone agrees with the bans.Western Sydney University technology researcher Dr.Joanne Orlando wrote in online magazine The Conversation earlier this year that Australia should not ban phones in schools because it's important to educate kids to live in the age they are raised in. "A good education for students today is knowing how to use technology to learn, communicate and work with ideas," she wrote. "Banning students from using smartphones is a 1950s response to a 2020 state-of-play."

(1)Why did Madeleine welcome the ban?

A.Teachers find it hard to control kids.
    B.Kids behave badly nowadays.
    C.School is for studying.
D.Her kids depend too much on phones.
(2)What can we learn about the ban in McKinnon Secondary School?

A.Students can now see the good of the ban.
B.Some teachers were against it at first.
C.Students can use their phones at lunch breaks.
D.Teachers have stopped using phones at school as well.
(3)What does Dr.Joanne Orlando think of banning phones in schools?

A.It will disconnect parents and kids.
B.It will cause kids to communicate less.
C.It will make education go back 60 years.
D.It will prevent kids being tech-minded.
(4)What does the underlined sentence mean?

A.Ms.Binnion doesn't take her mobile phone to school.
B.Ms.Binnion forbids anyone to use mobile phones in school.
C.The students may follow Ms.Binnion, not using mobile phones in school.
D.The students are not allowed to use their phones on campus.

When I bought my silver Labrador(拉布拉多犬) in the spring,I loved her so much that I named her Lucy.At first, she was still fairly new to my 80-acre family farm.Days later,Lucy was playing with my sisters dog,Plank, while I repaired a tractor on my farm.
The dogs eventually wandered down to a neighbors yard.Suddenly,I heard a couple of gunshots. My sisters dog came back, and he was terrified. At that point,I tried to look for Lucy and she never came back.I spent days searching for my dog in fields and forests for miles with no luck.
Talking with the neighbors,I found Lucy was last seen playing with my neighbor's young daughter. But the family didn't know who Lucy belonged to,and they assumed since she was wearing a collar(頸圈),she' d find her way back home.At that point,I knew Lucy wasn't shot and she was still alive.
As the days turned into weeks,I made posters with photos of Lucy, putting up the posters for miles and distributing them to my area s animal shelters and vets.I also posted photo after photo of Lucy on Facebook, hoping someone might recognize her. Many reached back and shared my posters, but no one had seen Lucy.My biggest fear was that she was stuck in the rocks or something like that. Not knowing was just the hardest thing. Not knowing her condition or where she was.
Summer turned into fall and winter, and the possibility of finding my dog was really small. My friends were trying to comfort me and said, "Well you know, she's probably not going to come back and you may have to get a different dog." But I refused and wanted to find Lucy.
    Paragraph 1:
One day,I got a message from Prater,a vet saying she got the dog.__________________________
    Paragraph 2:
Prater had come to my area in July to camp when she found Lucy._________________________
