Scientists have found that the ability of speaking a language is the key to understanding numbers.A research project found that deaf people cannot have a good understanding of numbers if they never learn language symbol（符號）for counting
   They found that deaf people from Nicaragua created their own sign language（手語）.So they could talk with others in this unique way，In their research，the first test was asking them to answer that among a 10-unit coin，a 20-unit coin and a 100-unit coin which one bad be most value.They knew their money very well because of their own language，so all of them could answer the questions.
   However，when they heard some bigger numbers，they had difficulty in making a correct gesture with their bands to express these numbers.Then，the researchers gave them some cards with different numbers and asked them to give gestures for the numbers.As a result，the numbers they could express were only up to three.
   Experts said the reason was that they didn't study the "count list" of one to ten.Actually，most people learnt it when they were young Without a set of meaningful words to guide deaf people in the study，they would have difficulty in understanding the logical（邏輯的）meanings of the numbers，F(xiàn)or example，they could not understand that "eight" is one larger than "seven".
