  • 菁優(yōu)網(wǎng)2.Edith Wharton was born into a rich family in 1862 in New York City,America.From 1866 to 1872,her family visited France,Italy,Germany and Spain.During her travels,young Edith studied at home instead of going to school.
       Some people think Edith began writing because she found the people around her so boring.Others say she put pen to paper when her husband became sick.But the fact is that she thought of herself as a writer when she was a child.Writing gave her a feeling of staying away from the control of her social class.
       Writing was just one of the things she liked.She had poetry and books on a number of subjects in her lifetime.Also,she was interested in designing and caring for gardens.
       In 1899,her collection of stories The Greater Inclination appeared.When she was in London,she visited a bookstore.The owner didn't know who she was and gave her the book and said to her, "This is what everyone in London is talking about now."
       Three years later,her first novel The Valley of Decision came out.Three years after that,her novel The House of Mirth (《歡樂之家》)came out.In 1920,she published The Age of Innocence and it won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.The novel was made into a movie in 1993.Edith died in 1937 in France.

       Shang's excellent works were popular in the village. "I love his paintings and they show great changes in our village," said a farmer.
       In recent years,more artists have traveled to mountain villages to record the development of China's poor areas,telling stories of the country's fight against poverty.
       "I've seen the local poverty alleviation.I want to record the changes of the poor areas and create more works about people," said Shang.
