1.Quality time with my dad When I tell people I wrote a book with my dad, they usually say, "It must be nice to think of the legacy (遺產) you created with someone who means so much to you."
This was a beautiful idea, but it was not the way I,or my dad, ever thought about the cooperation.Though we created something we're proud of, "nice" is not the word either of us uses to describe the process.
"It was more confrontation(對抗) than cooperation," my dad likes to say.I agree. When we landed a book deal,we began a writing journey that was more difficult than either of us had expected, but also far more rewarding.
For almost three years.jye.ai met once or twice a week at my parents*house and talked daily to plan and outline each chapter. After these meetings, one of us would write a rough draft that the other would build on.I wanted the book to focus on positive vices (不良習慣):such as moderate (適度的) chocolate. However,my dad felt the book should include chapters dealing with things like walking and spending time with family.Eventually,I saw it his way.He said the book was about more than just good vices. It was about encouraging people to enjoy life in healthy ways.
Writing this book was a reminder that our family members share not only our faults but also our strengths. My dad is smart, funny, critical and caring. He has a strong passion for the truth.I hope I share these great qualities. For this book,he researched each topic with an enthusiasm I'd never seen from him,and he insisted that we constantly question and critically analyze every piece of information- even our own conclusions. He was determined to cooperate on a book, not because he couldn't write one on his own,but because he believed that we could create than we something better together than we could alone.
I'm not sure if our cooperation led to better writing, but it led to a better writing experience.Writing this book was difficult, sometimes more difficult than past projects, but it was never lonely.

2.When we meet someone for die first time,we usually get a general sense of what kind of person they are by the way they shake hands, talk,or walk.In the age of social networking, however, first impressions are sometimes made even before we actually meet someone in person---that is,by looking at their profile photo.
According to a recent study, these social images say a lot about our personality. In the study, presented in a paper at the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media,a group of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania in the US used software to analyze the profile pictures of 66,000 users of US social platform Twitter and 3,200 of their tweets. At the same time, about 434 participants were asked to complete a survey about their personality type. The researchers wanted to find out if there was a connection between personality characteristics--- like openness, aggression, and neuroticism(神經質)--- and a person's profile picture.
According to the remits, open people are more likely to pose in in unusual way and use objects such as glasses or a guitar in their profile photo because they enjoy new and exciting experiences.Meanwhile, neurotic people often hold back their negative emotions. They try to avoid showing their/face;Instead,they use an image of something like a pet,a car or a building.
Apart from the objects in profile pictures, the colors used in them also give us some clues about the photo's owner. For example, persons who are open-minded were found to have the most colorful profile images,as they want to emphasize their personality and show themselves off, they researchers wrote.
Although social media photos "usually represent an extension of one's self, they also allow a user to shape his or her own personality and idealized view," according to the researchers. So,when choosing a profile photo, maybe we should ask ourselves first what kind of image we'd like to transmit. After all, first impressions always last.
(1)What's die purpose of the study?
A.To analyze the users' preference and dislikes.
B.To conduct a survey about personality type.
C.To explore the formation of first impression.
D.To find the link between characters and profile photos.
(2)According to the study,an outgoing person may
A.choose a puppy dog as an image
B.share a distinct pose in his photo
C.fill his profile photo with light colors
D.care little about his image

8.A couple, whom we shall call John and Mary, had a nice home and two lovely children,a boy and a girl.John had a good job and had just been asked to go on a business trip to another city and would be gone for several days.It was decided that Mary needed an outing and would go along too.So they hired a reliable woman to care for their children and made the trip.
Days later, they returned home a little earlier than they had planned.
As they drove into their town feeling glad to be back, they noticed smoke, so they went off their usual route to see what it was. They found a house in flames.Mary said, "Oh,well,it isn't our fire.Let's go home."
But John drove closer and screamed in surprise, "That house belongs to Fred Jones who works in the same company with me.He wouldn't be off work yet, maybe there is something we can do."
"It has nothing to do with us." Protested (抗議) Mary. "You have your good clothes on.Let's not get any closer."
But John drove up and stopped. They were both shocked to see the whole house in flames.A woman on the lawn was in hysterics(歇斯底里) screaming, "The children!Get the children!"
John seized her by the shoulder, saying, "Get a hold of yourself and tell us where the children are!"
"In the basement." sobbed the woman, "down the hall and to the left."
In spite of Mary's protests,John turned on a tap, used the water to wet his clothes, put his wet handkerchief on his head and dashed into the basement which was full of smoke.
He got to the door and found two children.Holding one under each arm,John headed outside. As he left,he could hear some more whimpering (嗚咽聲).He delivered the two badly frightened children into waiting arms and started back asking how many more children were down there.
