  • 2.Where in the classroom do you prefer to sit,and why?Scientists have discovered that seating preference not only shows students' personalities, but has a great influence on their school performance.Generally speaking, students show different attitudes depending on where they sit.Based on the research, scientists have developed a funnel-like(像漏斗的)model of "learning zones(區(qū)域)" to see the relationship between seating and active learning.
In this model, the mouth of the funnel(A)is the best position for learning.Students in this front area prove to be the most active learners. They show a greater desire(渴求)for learning, which leads them to focus(集中注意力)better and take a more active part than the rest of the class. Those in the neck of the funnel(B) don't pay the same close attention, but they ask a lot of questions, partly because of the added confidence they feel from being in a safe zone, with others around them.Less desirable is the area "outside the funnel(C,D)," which refers to the side and the back rows, where students take a less active part in classroom activities and find it hard to focus their attention, falling asleep at times.
Studies about learning zones suggest that a change in traditional seating plans can benefit students. In fact,a growing number of teachers have begun less traditional seating plans, such as "U-Type".There are no side and back areas,so teachers can expect their students to take part in activities more actively and increase student-teacher interaction(互動).

(1)According to scientists, students' learning is greatly influenced by
    .
    A.the number of students
    B.the time of class
    C.seating positions
    D.the size of the classroom
(2)It turns out that the students sitting in Area B
    .
    A.sometimes fall asleep
    B.feel safe and confident
    C.seldom ask their teachers questions
D.try to avoid looking directly at the teacher
(3)Which area is most proper for learning?

    A.Area A.
    B.Area B.
    C.Area C.
    D.Area D.
(4)What does the underlined word "benefit" in the last paragraph mean?

    A.Cause trouble for.
    B.Take control of.
    C.Give a warning to.
    D.Do good to.

  • 3.I have heard having a good sense of humour often helps in breaking the ice. Also people remember you because of your humour. But I think I don't have a very good sense of humour.Could you suggest how to build up this?
——Radha KarnikThis is a great question that is unfortunately difficult to answer.I can only give you my views on this topic, which may or may not be correct.I know that my sense of humour developed over time.
When I was younger I was not funny at all;now I can easily make people laugh. At the same time, sometimes I say things that I think are very funny but others do not.Improving wit and humour,I believe,is an ongoing process.
Now,there are various forms of humour and everyone has their individual style.Overall,I believe being fluent in a language is very important for being witty or funny. The way we play around with words adds the "funny" tag to an otherwise normal sentence.
Also, seeing irony is very important.I think humour is often the link between two unrelated thjye.aigs.In my experience, laughing frequently and appreciating other people's jokes and wit is very important.Within this, finding humour in everyday normal situations is the key.
I often notice what is going on around me and say funny things in my head and laugh to myself. That serves almost as practice for when I am in a group.I watch comedy shows and movies and I am sure that has some effects on helping me improve my sense of humour.
And last, having confidence that you are witty is important. There will always be someone wittier or funnier than you, which is fine.Just work on building your own style.Remember,if you are trying to be funny and witty in order to break the ice at a business function,be careful. In those situations, humour has to be mild and politically correct.
    Yours,
    Brad

    (1)Radha Karnik's problem is that he doesn't
    .
    A.have friends
    B.know the functions of humour

D.have a good sense of humour
(2)By telling his own experience,Brad tried to make Radha Karnik believe that
    .
    A.laughter is the best medicine
    B.laughter and humour go hand-in-hand
C.a(chǎn) sense of humour can be developed
D.a(chǎn) sense of humour helps impress others
(3)In order to improve our sense of humour,Brad believes that the following are important EXCEPT
    .
    A.good language ability
    B.loyalty
    C.learning from life
