  • 2.Throughout my educational years despite the kind teachers I had met,I never felt interested in writing until I met her,Mrs Kelley. At first,I believed that writing would still be my worst class.Gradually,my fondness increased. She taught the lesson in such a lively way and her word choice impressed me.But that was not what made her my favorite.Unlike other teachers, after instructions, she gave an enormous amount of freedom in what we wrote, allowing us to create our own stories using our imagination. And that mattered most.
There was one really revolutionary event:the historical fiction unit.We were to invent out own stories using the period we were given.World War Ⅱ was mine.At that point,I was just looking for a good grade.Rather than creating a mundane story,I wanted to make a story that I felt was meaningful. As I progressed,I was pulled further and further into the reality that I had made.Grammar no longer existed,as my hands gained acceleration. When I typed the final word,my hands trembled with excitement.Briefly,I read it over and then submitted the draft.
In the midst of anxiousness,Mrs Kelley responded. She pointed out some mistakes and gave some suggestions.Sadly, there were no comments of recognition.I fixed the errors and moved on.But when waiting for the final grade,I erased all the unrealistic thoughts that wandered in my mind.
In the next class, surprisingly, after handing back my paper,Mrs Kelley mentioned that my story was very good.I looked at her in confusion.Soon excitement stirred inside me.I found a"+5" attached to the score. She had given an extra point in "Plot" ,adding an "Excellent!" No other teacher had done this.On that day,I felt what it means to be a writer.Mrs Kelley introduced me to the beauty of literature and made writing so enjoyable.

Nowadays, sandpainting becomes a performance art and its popularity hasrisen. On the stages, sandpainting performers make a series of images (圖像) by drawing lines and figures in the sand with their fingers and hands. The series of images are used to tell a story.

  • 4."The atmosphere here at Rio de Janeiro is electric! If China wins this point, they will walk out of the stadium with an Olympic gold medal.Zhang Changning serves.Over the net,Popovic dives for the ball. She only just reaches it...and it's sent straight back to her by the Chinese spiker Hui Ruoqi.Popovic can't get the ball back this time...and that's it!It's over! It's gold for China!Look how the crowd has gone wild. You can see the joy and pride on the faces of the Chinese fans. And there we see the Chinese players embracing, with tears of happiness in their eyes...It's a dream come true for China! The Chinese women's volleyball team is Olympic champion once again!"
The Chinese women's volleyball team holds a very special place in the nation's heart. In the 1980s,the team burst onto the international volleyball scene with several major world titles, and an amazing three-set victory over the United States in the final of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. They became national heroes overnight. There was gold once more at Athens in 2004.But winning gold in Rio paints the most vivid portrait of the team's competitive spirit.
In Rio,the Chinese women's volleyball team needed all of its fighting spirit after it was assigned to the "group of death",where it faced several strong opponents in the group stage matches.Despite reaching the quarter-finals as the fourth team in the group, with just two wins in preliminary matches, they were not going to give up.Every single member of the team gave their all to the fight, including Hui Ruoqi who had had heart surgery less than five months previously.
Their perseverance paid off with an epic comeback against the defending champion Brazil in the quarter-finals.Next,the Chinese team defeated the Netherlands in the semi-final matches, having lost to them in the preliminaries. At last, showing a strong will and the steeliest nerves, they played a close match against Serbia to seize gold in the final.
But fighting spirit alone was not enough to guarantee victory.Strong team spirit also contributed greatly to their success.Cooperation between team members is essential. If each individual does her job and works well with others, then the end goal can be achieved. In fact, strong team spirit is more important than the skills of individual players.Zhu Ting, named Most Valuable Player at the Rio Olympics, also identified this as the special ingredient in the team's success: "Teamwork is the key to China's victory. Thanks to my teammates' hard efforts,I had the opportunity to show my spiking skill."
Together, the Chinese women's volleyball team has fought their way through ups and downs.Led by well-known Chinese volleyball player and coach Lang Ping, they have continued to aim high.Lang is only too aware that as soon as a team steps off the victory podium, they need to start from zero to prepare for new challenges ahead. In this way,the team begins its journey to the next Olympics.

(1)What is the function of the first paragraph?

A.To show how the audience went excited when watching the game.
B.To describe the scene of the Chinese women's volleyball team winning.
C.To attract people to watch the volleyball game.
D.To introduce the main topic of the passage.
(2)How many events are mentioned in the passage?

    A.1.
    B.2.
    C.3.
    D.4.
(3)Which is not mentioned as the factor that contributed to the Chinese women's volleyball team's winning?

    A.A strong will.
    B.Good luck.
    C.Teamwork and cooperation.
D.The steeliest nerves of the players.
(4)What can we learn from the passage?

A.The Chinese women's volleyball team won gold medal with three-set victory over the United States in 2004.

  • 5.How to Master Anxiety with Humour and Laughter Anxious people very often take themselves and their difficulties too seriously.Having a good laugh is a great way to lighten up. (1)
It gets your heart and lungs functioning fast and relaxes your diaphragm-the layer of muscle between your lungs and stomach, which, when you're anxious, spends a lot of time being hard and tense.
Besides getting you to laugh for a moment, good jokes also help break through black-and-white thinking and open you up to different expectations. When you hear or read a funny story or joke, you are already expecting the unexpected. (2)
Momentarily,at least, you have changed your mindset.
       (3)
Note them down so that you can look at them to help break you out of anxious thinking at a later day.Remembering funny experiences from the past is especially helpful because, very often, they weren't the least bit funny at the time.Maybe you locked yourself out of your home with no money or clothes on.It is a good reminder that even disasters aren't as extreme as they seem at the time-they can be laughed about when we view them in another way.
On average, happy children laugh over 300 times a day but adults less than 20. (4)
If you have been sad or unhappy, try watching a comedy or reading a book that makes you laugh.Or go for a walk and keep an eye out for something that will at least make you smile-the actions of dogs playing in the park, for instance,or something a young child says. (5)

A.It is also a good way to have fun.
B.You can get much more fun than usual from a joke book.
C.So,set yourself the pleasant task of laughing at least five times a day.
D.It can either be a development you can't predict or a clever punch line.
E.Remind yourself of the 10 funniest things that have ever happened to you.
F.More than that,it is an excellent way of reducing the stress your body goes through.
G.After all, looking out for the funnier side of life will offer you benefits more than just amusement.
