2.I major in Mechanical Engineering and Political Science. When someone hears what I study,I'm usually meant with two reactions.First up is a small smile with the word "overachiever" on the tip of their tongue. The second is a look of confusion, followed by an exaggerated (夸張的) "why?".The short answer:I want to be a problem solver, and engineering teaches me how to become that type of person. In addition,I also want to be able to look at the bigger picture.
It's the beginning of a new year, and a lot of first-years have plans for double or triple majors. However,as most of us quickly realize after that first fall semester, college is a lot!We are unavoidably forced to make choices - do we keep trying to make our double or triple majors work or do we completely switch gears? The thing I wished someone told me on day one is if you're passionate about something,it's not going to feel like work.Political Science can be challenging, but to me,it's fun to read the Constitution (憲法) and see the impact each word has on our interpretation.
This may sound hard to accept, but if you are double or triple majoring because you think you're in a race with your peers, you're only running yourself into the ground.Don't double or triple major if you are doing it for a mark on your resume (簡(jiǎn)歷),because then your life will be a living hell for the next four years. What is going to make you impressive is the passion that you have - whether it be in your study, career,or something else your career and study will enable you to do.
Always think about your "why" when it comes to the schedule a double or triple major entails.Because at the end of the day,it's going to be you doing the homework - so try to enjoy what you're doing along the ride for what it's worth.
(1)How do people tend to feel about the writer's majors?
A.Impressed or puzzled.
B.Ashamed or challenged.
C.Satisfied or confused.
D.Amazed or concerned.
(2)What enables the writer to enjoy learning Political Science?
A.The value of studying the Constitution.
B.The influence of learning engineering.
C.His career planning for the future.
D.His enthusiasm for the major.
(3)According to the author, what causes multiple majors' hard situation in college?
A.Adjusting the schedule for majors constantly.
B.Pursuing multiple majors out of competitive motivation.
C.Making random choices without sufficient consideration.
D.Estimating the difficulty of multiple majoring inaccurately.
(4)What is the author's purpose of writing the text?
A.To promote the concept of multiple majoring.
B.To explain the reasons for choosing a double major.
C.To compare the gains and losses of multiple majoring.
D.To stress the significance of passion in multiple majoring.組卷:2引用:9難度:0.5 -
3.In the summer of 1978 an English farmer was driving his tractor through a field of wheat when he discovered that some of his wheat was lying flat on the ground. The fattened(壓平的)wheat formed a circle about six meters across.Around this circle were four smaller circles of flattened wheat. The five circles were in a formation like five dots.During the following years, farmers in England found the strange circles in their fields more and more often.
The circles are called"crop circles"because they appear in the fields of grain-usually wheat or com.The grain in the circles lies flat on the ground but never broken;it continues to grow, and farmers can later harvest it.Farmers always discover the crop circles in the morning,so the circles probably form at night. They appear only in the months from May to September.
At first, people thought that the circles were a hoax.Probably young people were making them as a joke,or farmers were making them to attract jye.aiurists.To prove that the circles were a hoax, people tried to make circles exactly like the ones that farmer had found. They couldn't do it.They couldn't enter a field of grain without leaving tracks(痕跡),and they couldn't flatten the grain without breaking it.
Many people believe that beings from outer space are making the circle to communicate with us from far away and that the crop circles are messages from them.
Scientists who have studied the crop circles suggested several possibilities. Some scientists say that a downward rush of wind leads to the formation of the circles-the same downward rush of air that sometimes causes an airplane to crash.Other scientists say that forces within the earth cause the circles to appear. There is one problem with all these scientific explanations:crop circles often appear in formations, like the five-dot formation. It is hard to believe that any natural force could form those.
(1)In the summer of 1978,an English farmer discovered in his field that
A.some of his wheat had been damaged
B.his grain was growing up in circles
C.his grain was moved into several circles

A.a(chǎn)n attempt made to fool people
B.a(chǎn) special way to plant crops
C.a(chǎn) research on the force of winds
D.a(chǎn)n experiment for the protection of crops
(3)Which of the following may prove that the crop circles are not made by man?

We've learned something from movies that kids love a good adventure. It's not too often that a group of youngsters go on a mission and actually come back as heroes. But that's exactly what happened in the story below.
It all started when an elderly woman went missing.According to numerous experts on the elderly,it's common for aging men and women to lose their way.It primarily comes down to unstable activity within a particular part of the brain. That causes direction loss and confusion, making it difficult for them to find even known locations.
A group of young kids decided to go bike riding, just as they had hundreds of other times. It was an ordinary day just like any other. With the weather beautiful where they lived in Sacramento,California, this was a perfect way to have fun.
While out and about on their bikes,a police officer approached the kids.He explained to them that a 97-year-old woman from the area had gone missing. So,he asked them if they'd keep their eyes open for anything unusual. They decided to try to find her.
Kids, are always up for a challenge. That's when Logan,Hope,Kash, and McKenna decided to look around.Although they were hopeful, they really didn't know if they'd find her.But they were very determined to do their best.
Off they went. So,that's when the four young kids thought it would be best to ride their bikes up and down the streets. But they did a lot more than that. They rode through parks, over hills, and anywhere else they could think of to try to find the missing woman.
What started as more of a game slowly turned into a serious search and rescue. These kids slowly began to understand just how terrible the situation was. So,they went throughout several neighborhoods. They were now on a mission to succeed.
The area of Sacramento where the group lived was quite large. And with bikes, they were limited to where they could go.But that didn't matter—they wanted to cover every inch hoping to find her.
