1.In recent years,Myanmar has opened its doors to western tourism. This once-closed state in Southeast Asia is a gold mine for those who enjoy the ancient Buddhist culture of the region.Compared to its neighbors, the landscape of Myanmar has been left largely undamaged. There are so many reasons why Myanmar is amazing and has been rated one of the top Asian tourist destinations for 2019.Here are some of its scenic spots:
Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon
As far as pagodas are concerned, this is one of the most respected in Myanmar. This massive325-foot Buddhist pagoda is surrounded by smaller shiny-gold pagodas. It is believed that some of the hairs of Gautama Buddha are well-preserved in here. The Shwedagon Pagoda is a must-see destination on your traveling schedule.
Long Neck Tribe of the Hill Country
These women—who are identified by their long necks that are stretched by brass neck coils(項(xiàng)圈)from an early age—have become world-famous.You'll find this tribe in the mountainous north of the country, especially in Chin state. This custom dates back to ancient times when tribesmen—who were always at war with neighboring tribes—put neck coils on their women to prevent them from being taken as prisoners of war. These days, the long-necked women are used to seeing foreigners, who make the long journey to this isolated region of Myanmar for the purpose of seeing them.
Mandalay City
This dusty, hot center of trading and commerce for Myanmar is both fascinating and exciting. You'll never find a shortage of things to do here.Temples.Medieval-era castles.Buildings from the country's colonial British past. There are over 600 monasteries and nunneries in the Holy Hills of Sagaing, which overlook Mandalay. The city also has an exciting nightlife which will be an attraction for many.

2.If you're looking for a way to achieve naturally glowing skin, you needn't look further than face yoga. That's what Akiko Grabin,a face yoga teacher believes.
The main reason people give it a shot is because of its effect on skin, with Grabin claiming that it can prevent wrinkles,or at least smooth their appearance. And there's some evidence to back these claims.Research from 2018 found that 30 minutes a day of facial exercises over a 20-week period might improve the appearance of skin in middle-aged women.
Takatsu is credited as the creator of the Face Yoga Method. She wrote about how she started it on her website, saying she came up with the concept following a car crash in which her body was injured and her face was left looking asymmetrical (不對(duì)稱的).Standing in front of the mirror one day,Takatsu had a realization: "if I exercise my body muscles,I should be able to do the same for my face." After Takatsu started practicing this method, people began praising her appearance and were eager to know how she achieved such results. The Face Yoga Method was born.
But Dr Imaan Joshi,a cosmetician working in a beauty agency, remains skeptical of the practice. She believes face yoga can have "some beneficial effects" in terms of relaxing muscles, but says there's no evidence it can reduce or prevent wrinkles.Joshi explains that wrinkles form from repetitive,life-long movement of facial muscles, accompanied by loss of collagen (膠原)and fat as we age. "So,there's no realistic way of getting rid of wrinkles apart from reducing or freezing the movement of these muscles."
(1)Why do people try to do face yoga?
A.Doing face yoga can do good to people's health.
B.Face yoga is the best way to achieve smooth skin.
C.Doing face yoga is beneficial to people's skin.
D.Face yoga is highly recommended by experts.

A.The wish to heal her injured face.
B.The praise for her appearance.

D.The comments on her website.
(3)What does the underlined word "cosmetician" in the last paragraph mean?
A.A professor who studies physical exercise and health.
B.A teacher who teaches biology.
C.A physician who improves people's looks.
D.An adviser who provides the old with nutritious diets.
(4)Which statement may Joshi agree with?
A.Face yoga is an effective way to get rid of wrinkles.
B.The claim that face yoga can relax muscles lacks evidence.
C.Repetitive movement of facial muscles causes loss of collagen.
D.More movements of facial muscles can result in the formation of wrinkles.組卷:1引用:3難度:0.5 -
3.Maths anxiety may be causing a national crisis (危機(jī)),Cambridge University researchers have said,as they find that one in ten children suffer from anxiety at the subject.
Researchers surveyed 1,700 British pupils aged 8 to 13 about their feelings towards the subject. They found 10% of children suffered from maths anxiety.Other feelings caused by maths included fear and anger, while physical symptoms (癥狀) included a racing heart or struggling to catch breath.
"The project studied students' attitudes towards maths because of what could be called a 'maths crisis' in the UK," researchers said. "Many children and adults experience feelings of anxiety, fear or discomfort when they face maths. This may be leading to a low level of maths in the country." The number of adults with functional maths skills equal to a GCSE (英國(guó)普通中等教育證書(shū)) grade C has dropped from 26% in 2003 to only 22% in 2011,according to the survey. At the same time, only 57% of the children achieved the same level in functional maths skills.
Dr.Denes szucs,a professor at Cambridge's Centre for Neuroscience (神經(jīng)科學(xué)) in education, said that there is a misunderstanding that only low performing children suffer from math anxiety. "This is a common misunderstanding that we have seen in decision makers," he said. "They assume people are anxious about maths because they are poor achievers." In fact, more than 77% of children with high levels of maths anxiety are normal to high achievers.Dr.Szucs went on, "Probably their maths anxiety will go unnoticed because their performance is good. But they are very worried and in the long term their performance is limited. This is a real danger here:these are children who are completely able to do maths at a normal level, but may keep away from it because they feel anxious." The research also found that girls have higher levels of maths anxiety than boys.
Johns Hillman, director of education at the Nuffield Foundation said, "Mathematical achievement is valuable,as a foundation (基礎(chǔ)) for many other subjects and as an important predictor of future academic learning, job hunting and even health.Maths anxiety can seriously influence students' performance in both primary and secondary."
(1)What can we learn from the survey conducted by the Cambridge University researchers?
A.Girls suffer lower levels of maths anxiety than boys.
B.Only low performing children suffer from maths anxiety.
C.Children with maths anxiety will suffer both physically and mentally.
D.Most children with high levels of maths anxiety usually perform badly at the subject.
(2)Why did the researchers study students' attitudes towards maths?
A.Many children are suffering from maths anxiety.
B.They want to help improve students' academic performance.
C.Maths anxiety may cause great damage to children's development.
D.Both children and adults experience maths anxiety, causing a national maths crisis.
(3)How does the author prove there may be a national maths crisis in the UK in paragraph 3?
A.Providing data.
B.Giving examples.
C.Making comparisons.
D.Analyzing and reasoning.
(4)What question could possibly be talked about after the last paragraph?
A.How can students learn maths well?
B.How can maths anxiety be reduced?
C.How does anxiety influence students' mental health?
D.How can children realize the importance of learning maths?組卷:4引用:2難度:0.5 -
4.Do you think alien beings exist somewhere in the universe? It seems like Mars, our closest neighbor, has inspired the most science fiction as the place where aliens are most likely to come from.Recent Mars probes(探測(cè))have shown us that there is no life on that planet-at least not now.But that does not mean that life does not exist elsewhere-after all,the universe is really big.A lot of scientific research is going on in the search for "extraterrestrial life".
Think about it-why should the seven billion people on this little planet be the only- living beings in the universe? It would,in fact, seem logical that this is not the case.So scientific research in this matter is based around the idea of finding other planets that have environments that can support life -environments similar to the Earth. The search is on for the evidence of the existence,or earlier existence of life;from very wise beings to simple organisms(有機(jī)物).
So far, there have been a number of theories as to which planetary bodies may have an atmosphere that can support such life and therefore deserve closer attention. As for places within our own Milky Way Galaxy,it has been assumed over the decades that Mars and Venus,as well as some of the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, may have been hosts for life. Now,as technologies have improved and we can obtain measurements of the composition of the atmosphere on extra-solar planets, the chances of finding "alien" life forms are increasing.
There has been a theory that some of the planets in the habitable zone of the red dwarf star Gliese 581 may be able to support life.In 2007,scientists discovered exoplanet Gliese 581 c-and felt that its atmosphere was most suitable for supporting life. But further research revealed that it would not. Now,attention has been turned to Gliese 581 d,at the outer edge of the star's habitable zone. The main standards for deciding whether a planetary body can be life-supporting are atmospheric conditions which allow the existence of water.Gliese 581 is about 20.4 light years away from the Earth,so even if life does exist there, the distance would mean that communication would be unlikely.
Having said this-who says alien life forms (if they exist) need water?
(1)What does the underlined part in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Life existing outside of the Earth.
B.The evidence of the existence of life.
C.Other faraway planets in the universe.
D.Creatures known from science fictions.
(2)What makes it possible for people to find "alien beings"?
A.Modern scientific theories.
B.Atmospheric conditions.
C.Environments similar to the Earth.
D.Advanced technologies.
(3)From the passage,we know that
A.the atmosphere of Gliese 581 c was most suitable for life
B.it is not certain whether alien life forms need water or not
C.the 7 billion people on the Earth are the only beings in the universe
D.the distance of 20.4 light years makes it impossible to find life on Gliese 581 d
(4)Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Do Aliens Exist?
B.Is Mars Suitable for Life?
C.Are Alien Life Forms Various?
D.Can We Communicate with Aliens?組卷:13引用:2難度:0.5

Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn't help weeping when she thought of the scolding from her mother.Having wandered in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat.She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, "Hey,girl, you want to have the noodles?"
"Oh,yes…but I don't have money on me," she replied.
"That's nothing.I'll treat you today," said the man. "Come in."
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating,Jenny cried silently.
"What is it?" asked the man kindly.
"Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!" said Jenny. "Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me.She is so merciless compared to a stranger!"
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, "Girl,do you really think so?I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot.But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you?Have you expressed your gratitude to her?"
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock;she remembered Mother's familiar face and weathered(滄桑的)hands. "Why did I not think of that?A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me."
On the way home,Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.
