2.Dr Dian Fossey, one of the world's leading women scientists, had a remarkable career. The work—she devoted her life to protecting and studying the mountain gorillas(大猩猩) of Africa—has proved highly effective and has resulted in the steady increase of the most endangered great apes.
Fossey made her first trip to Africa in 1963.Three years later, she returned to Africa to begin a long-time study of the mountain gorillas. She set up camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo but moved to Rwanda because of political reasons in 1967.She established her "Karisoke" Research Centre camp on September 24,1967.
Fossey's aims were to study gorilla ecology and social organization. She found that in order to achieve this, she needed to recognize individual gorillas, which required that the gorillas get used to her presence(出現(xiàn)).By copying gorillas'behaviour and sounds,F(xiàn)ossey began to gain their trust, and in 1970 an adult male gorilla she had named "Peanuts" reached out to touch her hand.
Close observations over thousands of hours enabled Fossey to gain the gorillas' trust and bring forth new knowledge about their behaviour.Stories and photographs of her work were published in National Geographic Magazine and elsewhere.
In 1977,one of Fossey's favorite gorillas,Digit, was killed by poachers and she established the Digit Fund to help raise money for gorilla protection efforts in the same year.
On December 26,1985,F(xiàn)ossey was murdered while going back to her house in Karisoke. Her body was discovered near the research centre. Most probably,Dian Fossey had been killed by the poachers she'd fought against. On her tombstone(墓碑),"No one loved gorillas more..."
In 1988,the life and the work of Fossey were made into a movie based on her book.

3.During a decline in tourism, one national park in Thailand has seen a dramatic rise in "visitors" recently. So many are the hermit crabs (寄居蟹) flooding into the otherwise empty beaches of Koh Lanta that shells (貝殼) for them to live in have become in short supply.
The Thai government moved quickly to ease the housing shortage, launching a public appeal for empty shells that netted over 200 kg.On December 5 these were distributed around the park in a ceremony.
Hermit crabs rely on shells to protect their soft bodies, moving to larger shells as they grow.On Koh Lanta and the surrounding smaller islands, their rapid increase seems to be a natural phenomenon, rather than directly related to the absence of tourists. But the shortage of shells may be man-made:pretty ones have long been gathered to be sold as goods.Crabs had begun to make do with potential death-traps such as plastic caps and bottles.
The shell drive was part of a government initiative to "regain the balance of nature". "I have instructed all national parks to do whatever it takes," says Varawut Silpa-archa,the minister for natural resources. His inspiration comes from the pause in tourism brought on by COVID-19.A ban on international visitors and the closure of national parks have helped nature recover, bringing endangered leatherback turtles back onto Thai beaches. In the coastal provinces of Phang Nga and Phuket, turtles have laid the largest number of eggs for 20 years.
The government has decided to try to copy the short break forced on it by COVID-19 in future. From now on,all national parks will be required to close for a short period during the off-season and to limit the number of tourists through a reservation system when they are open.Although such restrictions mean reduced earnings from tourism in the short term,in the longer run more parks may help to keep the tourists coming.
(1)What happened to the beaches of Koh Lanta recently?
A.They got flooded by seawater.
B.They became completely empty.
C.They were packed with hermit crabs.
D.They saw a constant stream of tourists.
(2)What contributed to the housing shortage for hermit crabs?
A.Natural disasters.
B.Human activities.
C.Their preference for bottles.
D.The government's involvement.
(3)Why are turtles mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A.To warn turtles are dying out.
B.To prove beaches are their ideal habitats.
C.To stress ecological diversity of Thailand.
D.To show the birth of Varawut's inspiration.
(4)Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Keeping the Balance of Nature
B.COVID-19 Helping Nature Recover
C.Finding Shelters for Homeless Hermit Crabs
D.Closing National Parks or Drawing More Visitors組卷:3引用:3難度:0.5

Every corner of the small bedroom was filled with summer heat.Hot air snaked across my chest and made my already labored breathing more difficult. At nearly ten years old,I thought I was too old to have the croup(哮吼).The bad cough told a different story.
Earlier that morning, fever and congestion(鼻塞)had been my greatest enemies.I became angry because of the mix.As the excited voices of my sister and two cousins came upstairs,I squeezed deeper into the soft bed.The closing of the front door, followed by the noise of my uncle's old car threw me further into disappointment. They went off on an afternoon adventure, while I was stuck in bed.Again.
I complained, which only served to fuel my anger.Worn out by the bad cough and the heat,I fell asleep. When I awoke,my grandmother was sitting in a chair next to my bed, shelling peas into a big pot.
She looked at me and smiled."Good.Harriet,you're awake."She reached over and pressed her hand against my forehead."Better.In a few days, you'll be up and running around."
"Not soon enough,"I said unhappily.
Her hands stilled for a moment, several peas held in her fingers."Ah,the trip."
I hit the bed hard with my fist(拳頭)."They could have waited.I'm stuck here and they're off having a good time. It's not fair."Tears welled up in my eyes as I spoke.
My grandmother remained silent. Her hands again moved smoothly, continuing to shell peas as if they had a life of their own. When she finally spoke, her voice had an edge to it."So,who told you life was fair?"

(1)續(xù)寫(xiě)詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
