1.Two years ago,Beijing became the first city ever to hold both Summer and Winter Olympic Games after winning the 2022 Winter Olympics bid with co-host city Zhangjiakou, bringing snow and ice sports into public spotlight. Now,let's take a look at some of the most popular events in the Winter Olympic Games.
Figure skating
Figure skating is one of the most popular sports at the Winter Olympics,in which ice skaters, singly or in pairs, perform freestyle movements of jumps, spins, lifts, and footwork in a graceful manner. The figure skating competition is one of the fiercest at the Winter Olympics - one slight error, and a competitor's chance of a medal goes up in smoke. To win the game, the skater has to be flawless.
Curling
Curling is one of the most unique sports at the Winter Olympics - a winter sport played by two teams of four players on a rectangular sheet of ice.The two teams take turns to slide(滑動)large round flat stones towards a target.Members of each team use brooms to sweep the surface of the ice in the path of the stone to control its speed and direction. And while curling may be a "slow" sport,it's still full of skill, suspense and excitement!
Snowboarding
Snowboarding is a popular winter sport that involves sliding downhill on snow with a snowboard firmly attached to a rider's feet. The sport is said to have been inspired by surfing, skiing and skateboarding,as an alternative to alpine skiing(高山滑雪).While snowboarding is one of the newer events - first included at the 1998 Winter Olympics,it has become one of the most popular and exciting sports at the Winter Olympics.
Ice hockey
Ice hockey is a game between two teams who wear skates and compete on an ice rink(溜冰場).Each team usually has six players. The object is to push the puck(冰球)past a goal line and into a net guarded by a goalkeeper.Ice hockey is popular for its speed and frequent physical contact.Worldwide there are more than a million registered Ice hockey players performing regularly in leagues.

2.Making Music Visible On a recent afternoon in a brightly lit studio in Brooklyn,Tom and David were filming a music video. They were recording a different version of their favorite song, but the voices that filled the room were those of the two original singers, who made the song a hit.And yet the two men were also singing - with their hands.
Tom is a deaf actor and dancer;David is a hearing dancer and choreographer(編舞者)who is,thanks to seven deaf family members,a native speaker of sign language.Their version is part of a 10-song series of sign language covers of works.
Around the world, music connects together communities and promotes a sense of belonging. But as sign language music videos become an online phenomenon, the richness of sign language has gotten a broader stage.
"Music is many different things to different people." Alice,a deaf actress told in an interview, using an interpreter. "I realize," she added,"that when you do hear, not hearing may seem to separate us.But what is your relationship to music,to dance,to beauty? What do you see that we may learn from? These are conversations people need to get accustomed to having."
A good sign language performance thinks highly of the combination of the elements of sign language - hand shape, movement and facial expression - with those of spoken language, allowing a skilled sign language speaker to engage in the kind of sound painting that composers use to enrich a text. "The hands have their own emotions," Tom said. "They have their own mind."
Deaf singers prepare for their performances by experiencing a song through any means available to them. Many people speak about their highly sensitivity to the vibrations(振動)of sound, which they experience through their body.As a dancer trained in ballet,Tom said he was particularly conscious of the vibrations of a piano as transmitted (傳遞)through a wooden floor.
(1)What makes the video of Tom and David famous?
A.They recorded a famous song.
B.The video talks about deaf actors.
C.Sign language is used to perform songs.
D.The record has the most series of pop music.
(2)What does Alice mean in paragraph 4?
A.Our life is lack of music, dance and beauty.
B.Music bridges the gap between different people.
C.People with hearing loss are separated from music.
D.Dancers and singers need to strengthen communication.
(3)What can we infer from paragraph 5?
A.A well-performed sign language speaker usually works with another dancer.
B.Sign language dancers are more emotional and thoughtful than other dancers.
C.The elements of sign language are more important than those of spoken language.
D.Skilled sign language performers tend to combine spoken and unspoken elements.
(4)According to the passage, which of the following best describes deaf singers?
A.Caring.
B.Cautious.
C.Sensitive.
D.Intelligent.組卷:4引用:2難度:0.7 -
3.Picture this:You're at a movie theater food stand loading up on snacks. You have a choice of a small, medium or large soda. The small is $3.50 and the large is $5.50.It's tough decision:The small size may not last yon through the whole movie, but $5.50 for some sugary drink seems ridiculous. But there's a third option,a medium soda for $5.25.Medium may be the perfect amount of soda for you,but the large is only a quarter more.If you're like most people, you end up buying the large.
If you're wondering who would buy the medium soda, the answer is almost no one.In fact, there's a good chance the marketing department purposely priced the medium soda as a decoy(誘餌),making you more likely to buy the large soda rather than the small.
I have written about this unique human nature before with my friend Ariely, who studied this phenomenon extensively after noticing pricing for subscription(訂閱)to Geography. The digital subscription was $59,the print subscription was $125,and the print plus digital subscription was also $125.No one in their right mind would buy the print subscription when you could get digital as well for the same price,so why was it even an option?Ariely ran an experiment and found that when only the two "real" choices were offered, more people chose the less-expensive digital subscription. But the addition of the bad option made people much more likely to choose the more expensive print plus digital option.
Brain scientist call this effect "asymmetric dominance" and it means that people are attracted toward the choice nearest a clearly inferior(較差的)option.Marketing professors call it the decoy effect, which is certainly easier to remember. It works because of the way our brains assign value when making choices.Value is almost never absolute;rather,we decide an object's value relative to our other choices. If more options are introduced, the value equation(方程)changes.
(1)what's the function of the example in paragraph 1?
A.To offer background information.
B.To explain an economical phenomenon.
C.To clarify a rule when buying drinks.
D.To arouse the readers' interest in the topic.
(2)According to the author, why do people prefer the most expensive option?
A.Because they're confused by the various offered prices.
B.Because they believe they've made the best choice.
C.Because they are easily influenced by other buyers.
D.Because they have studied this phenomenon extensively.
(3)The decoy effect works when people
A.pay little attention to price
B.focus on objects' actual value
C.think about the value equation
D.face a less-than-best choice
(4)From which website would you most probably find this text?
A.https://www.lifestyle.jye.ai/health
B.https://www.what-is-on.jye.ai/local
C.https://www.consumers.jye.ai/money
D.https://www.education.com/science組卷:3引用:1難度:0.7 -
4.Ice Ages Have you ever heard the phrase "ice age"?It refers to a long period of time when glaciers and ice sheets cover large parts of the Earth. We are actually living in an ice age right now! This ice age began about 2.5 million years ago.Today, large areas of ice cover regions of Antarctica, the Arctic, and Greenland.
The climate changes multiple times during an ice age.It switches between glacial periods and interglacial periods.During glacial periods of an ice age, temperatures are much colder than they are today.Ice sheets and glaciers expand, covering more of the planet. These periods can last tens of thousands of years. The last glacial period started about 120,000 years ago and ended about 11,500 years ago.During interglacial periods of an ice age,the average global temperature increases.Ice sheets and glaciers get smaller. The climate is warmer and wetter than it is during glacial periods. We are currently living in an interglacial period. It started about 11,500 years age - when the last glacial period ended.
Scientists don't completely understand what causes ice ages. But they do believe that one important factor is the amount of light Earth receives from the sun. When the northern part of the world receives less sunlight, temperatures drop - it gets colder, and more water freezes into ice. This can lead to the start of an ice age. When the northern part of the world receives more sunlight, temperatures rise - it gets warmer and ice sheets melt.Consequently,an ice age ends. However, there are other factors, too, including changes in the water flow of our oceans.Scientists are working to learn more about how different factors may cause an ice age to begin and end.
The current ice age we're in is not the first the Earth has experienced. At least five major ice ages have occurred throughout Earth's history.
(1)What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To announce a recent scientific discovery.
B.To describe how ice ages come about.
C.To explain why the Earth's climate is changing.
D.To encourage people to concern about the environment.
(2)How are glacial and interglacial periods different?
A.The north part of the earth receives less sunlight during glacial periods.
B.It is warmer during an interglacial period than a glacial one.
C.Interglacial periods normally last longer than glacial periods.
D.More of the Earth is covered by ice during an interglacial period than a glacial one.
(3)What does the underlined word "this" in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.That the temperature falls.
B.That glaciers get smaller.
C.Global climate.
D.Northern part of the world.
(4)What is the author most likely to write about in the missing 5th paragraph?
A.The changes of the ocean water in glacial periods and interglacial periods.
B.Scientists' new researches on factors making an ice age begin and end.
C.Something about the major ice ages occurred throughout Earth's history.
D.The effects on human life caused by glacial periods and interglacial periods.組卷:5引用:1難度:0.5
