The day was organised by Bob Sherren who showed the children how to plant the planet-friendly line of trees in protective chambers(防護(hù)室) to shield them from hungry wildlife as they settle in their roots.Bob said,"The day really was 'Thinking Globally,Acting Locally' put into action. The children learned about the importance of planting trees as a way of helping to bring about climate justice(正義) for many living in poorer nations and of course enjoyed planting the trees too." The eventual hedge, which will grow to full size over ten years behind the Queen Elizabeth House,is made up of trees such as oaks, silver birches and so on.
Bob added,"The children were also able to help people living at Epilepsy Society because they will gain some well-needed privacy from the hedge in time. The natural wildlife benefits too from the fruits and nuts that a hedge made from native species can provide as well as the possibility for any number of nesting sites."

  • 3.Kids' lives should be filled with fun and excitement.Every parent wants their child to be able to look back on their childhood with memories filled with good times and humor. One of the ways to keep these memories is with a set of kids bunk beds.
For one thing, they are fun to shop for;both children and parents get into the excitement of new bedroom furniture. For parents the excitement comes from having saved up the necessary money to buy something special for their children. The kids are beside themselves because new beds mean that they are growing up.
Use the shopping experience as a means of starting to teach your children economics. For example, explain to them that you have X amount of money to spend on the new beds.It may not mean much to the kids now,but it will plant a seed that money plays an important role in buying things.
Another learning method that can be employed for buying kids bunk beds is to have them reach certain goals.Explain to your children that they are growing up and therefore need "big kids" beds. However, you have to be sure they are really grown up enough for the new beds!Give them some goals to achieve that are age proper. Some examples would be to take the rubbish out every day without being told, read one or two books and be able to tell you what they were about,be able to say the ABC's or count to 10.This will give your children a sense of achievement and ownership of their new beds.
Getting kids bunk beds with a desk will also improve good learning habits.Have your children sit at the desk to do their drawing or coloring;this will improve the habit of doing homework at the desk.
Help your children learn and have fun with their new kids bunk beds!

(1)How many advantages about kids bunk beds are referred to in the text?

    A.Two.
    B.Three.

(2)Why is it important to children economics when buying a kids bunk bed?

A.To help children learn about money spending.
B.To show children parents have lots of money.
C.To make children know money in everything.
D.To teach children to save their own money.
(3)To own a new bunk bed, children are expected to
    .
    A.give some opinions
    B.reach some goals

  • 4.Some people surveyed tasted the sweet, salty, and crunchy(脆的) together with other tastes of food as they listened to different noises. It shows that louder noises reduced the reported sweetness or saltiness of food while increasing the measure of crunchiness.
It may go some way to explain why airline food is widely complained about by both the workers and passengers.Andy Woods,a researcher, said,"It's a general opinion that plane foods aren't fantastic, but I'm sure airlines do their best,so we wondered if there were other reasons. One thought was that perhaps the background noise may have an effect.NASA gives their space explorers very strong-tasting foods, because for some reason, they can't taste food that strongly-again,it may have something to do with the background noise."
In a study,48 people were fed sweet foods or salty ones, while listening to nothing or noise through earphones.Meanwhile they rated(劃分等級(jí)) the foods. In noisier settings, foods were rated less salty or sweet than they were when it was silent, but were rated crunchier."The evidence shows that if the background noise is loud, your attention might be drawn to that, away from the food," Dr Woods said.
"We are still at an early stage of progressing and this is a rather small study to really draw definitive(最完整可靠的) conclusions from,"Dr Woods said,"but they suggest that restaurants could well adapt their choice of food for a given environment."
Also in the group's findings there is the suggestion that the overall satisfaction with the food is also related to the degree to which people like what they are hearing.

(1)How does the food taste when it is eaten in a noisy environment?

    A.Less salty but crunchier.
    B.Sweeter and saltier.
    C.Sweeter but less crunchy.
    D.Less sweet and crunchy.
(2)Why does NASA give their space explorers very strong-tasting foods?

A.Foods become less tasty in space.
B.The explorers lose their sense of taste in space.
C.Loud noises in space may weaken the explorers' sense of taste.
D.The explorers need tastier foods to keep energetic in space.
(3)We can infer from what Dr.Woods said in the 4th paragraph that
    .
A.the environment influences the food a restaurant sells
B.the researchers have made an effective conclusion
C.music will weaken people's sense of taste while eating
D.listening to nothing while eating is the best choice
(4)What would be the best title for the text?

    A.The Best Dinner Environment
    B.How to Change Plane Foods
    C.Listening to Music While Eating
D.Background Noise Affects the Taste of Foods
