Facts are important but the book is also frank about the uncertainty the world faces,There's a chapter on vaccines(疫苗)which explains that the disease is new and currently has no cure."Honesty is crucial for children of any age,you have to have their trust,"said Scheffler. The book deals with issues such as not seeing grandparents and coping with annoyed parents who might be trying to work from home themselves at a stressful time. The reaction to the book has been overwhelming.
"I'm not a doctor or a nurse but as an illustrator this was something I could to help and I feel proud that it has had this amazing response," said Scheffler.
Like all good children's stories, the book ends on a positive note. There's a picture of families, doctors and nurses celebrating together and the caption(說明文字)reads"One day this strange time will be over." • 3."Pale moon rains.Red moon blows.White moon neither rains nor snows."For generations, people have watched the moon for signs of changes in the weather. The moon does,in fact, affect the Earth's climate and weather patterns in several unnoticeable ways.
The most obvious effect the moon has on the Earth can be seen in the ocean tides(潮汐).A world without tides would have very different weather systems.Tides are one factor that influences the movement of ocean currents, which move warm or cool water about the Earth,Warm ocean currents bring warmer wetter weather, while cold ocean currents bring colder drier weather.
While the lunar nodal cycle is set to bring marked change over the coming decades, the moon affects the Earth in a few other little-known ways on a shorter timescale,
The moon is also thought to affect polar temperatures and contribute to fluctuations(波動)in the extent of Arctic ice.Satellite measurements have shown that the poles are 0.55℃ warmer during a full moon.In addition, tidal forces act to break up ice sheets and change ocean heat flows, converting the amount of ice in the Arctic Ocean,
The moon's influence, sometimes unnoticeable and sometimes strong, has had a formative impact on life on Earth. Some scientists argue that it is the moon that made life possible in the first place. The moon steadies the Earth as it spins on its axis(軸),helping to give us a stable climate.Without it,the Earth would rock more irregularly. The poles would move obviously in relation to the Earth's orbit.Seasons, days and nights would all look very different. The moon is closest to the Earth in the universe, without which the Earth would be a very lonely place.

(1)What is the author's purpose of writing paragraph 1?

A.To draw people's attention to the text.
B.To teach people signs of weather changes.
C.To show people how to appreciate the moon.
D.To tell people to prepare for extreme weather.
(2)What is the second paragraph mainly about?

    A.The world weather system.
    B.The impact of ocean tides.
    C.The movement of ocean tides.
    D.The reasons for warmer weather.
(3)What does the underlined word "converting"in paragraph 4 mean?

    A.Changing.
    B.Speeding.
    C.Determining.
    D.Keeping.
(4)In which section of a newspaper can you find the text?

    A.Health.
    B.Entertainment.
    C.Science.
    D.Sports.

  • 9.閱讀下面材料,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構(gòu)成一篇完整的短文。
Marathons are not for the faint of heart, nor the faint of lungs. You might think you're up for it,but then your lungs will remind you halfway through that this might be too much.I have a ton of respect for people who do compete in them.Make sure you stretch a lot before you do one! This story though,is about someone who could have finished the race sooner but chose not to.
There are people who are well in-shape to run a marathon, and marines (海軍陸戰(zhàn)隊士兵) are definitely some of those people.Military training is some of the toughest out there. They'll make you do push up (俯臥撐) after push up,course after course, and they'll make you do it regularly.A marine is thus well-prepared to run something like a marathon race.
Myles Kerr was a 19-year-old marine who joined in a 5-kilometre marathon. As the name implies,a 5-kilometre marathon is 5 kilometers of running you have to do.And 5 kilometers is a lot to run on foot.It is definitely not a distance you should attempt without a lot of preparation and training.Myles, thanks to his training, was even able to wear boots while he ran.
While Myles and the other marines with him could handle this just fine, one other runner couldn't.It was 9-year-old Brandon Fuchs. The boy joined in the race as part of a group. However,he got separated from the group as the race progressed. He was now quite far behind and struggling to finish the race.
Brandon is just 9 years old,but he is fond of sports. He always sits in front of TV watching matches of all kinds of sports, especially matches concerning running. He ever participated in some kinds of running races, which made him even more interested in sports. When he knew a short-distanced marathon was to be held in his city,he signed up for it without hesitation.

    注意:
    (1)續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右
    (2)請按如下格式在相應(yīng)位置作答。
It just happened that the boy caught sight of Myles.
    ______________
Seeing Myles run together with Brandon, people felt confused.
