  • 1.Fancy Dress High School Many American schools don't have a dress code (規(guī)范).Sometimes students can dress in the wildest ways you could imagine!
I noticed this during my first term as an exchange student at Macon High School in Missouri. One day,I saw all the students at my school were dressed up in strange clothing. The girls were wearing bright-coloured shirts and mini-skirts.The boys were wearing old-fashioned black suits.Later my friends told me that they were dressed up in the fashion of the 1900s.
       "But why?" I asked,surprised.
"Because it's the homecoming week,a time when former(以前的)students of the school come back and meet each other again. There are parties and sports events. The school encourages us to wear 1900s clothes on Monday, pyjamas(睡衣) on Tuesday, orange clothes on Wednesday, clothes inside out on Thursday, and socks that do not match on the last day!Sounds like fun, doesn't it?"
I'd never imagined students wearing anything so crazy at school before. The next day,I plucked up(鼓起) my courage and went to school in blue pyjamas. There was no embarrassment(尷尬) since everyone was in pyjamas, even the teachers! It excited us when we noticed that Mr Lewis, our American history teacher, who always has a straight face and never makes jokes, was wearing pyjamas too!It made class that day such a lot of fun.
The rest of the week was also amazing. But I realised that homecoming week was not just about fun,but a chance to be creative and try out new things.

  • 2.When 4-year-old British Prince George started his first day of school in September 2017,Chinese language was on his curriculum. And he wasn't alone.According to a report published by the British Council in September, about 51 percent of UK parents want their children to learn Chinese,as it is believed to be one of the most useful languages to know.
In fact, the popularity of Chinese drove the UK government to launch (開展) the Mandarin Excellence Programme in September 2016.Its aim (目標(biāo)) is to make at least 5,000 British state secondary school students fluent in Chinese by 2020.

So why are so many countries crazy about learning Chinese? One reason could be that as China continues to develop rapidly,Chinese is becoming a useful tool for people's personal and professional (職業(yè)的) growth.Aisling McCaffrey from Canada, who studied at the Renmin University of China, told Xinhua News Agency, "…learning Chinese is the best way to make sure that you can be part of that growth."
This opinion was shared by former prime minister of the UK David Cameron, who urged (竭力主張) British students to learn Chinese to "seal (訂立) tomorrow's business deals".And he quoted from former South African president Nelson Mandela, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."

  • 4.Dear friend,do you have a plan for the coming holiday?Recently,Novel-Travel,one of the world's biggest travel guides, published its top-three travel trends (新潮流) that might change the way we travel this year.
Augmented (增強(qiáng)的) attractions. The ever-improving headsets, smartphones, and Wi-Fi connections are technologies that can help to open up a whole new world of museums, zoos, and theme parks. For example, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in the US has created an augmented reality app to help visitors enjoy its exhibits.People can view a sea cow growing flesh (肉) or a bird demonstrating (展示) how it catches fish.
Road trips with electric vehicles (交通工具).Today many people are choosing to reduce their carbon footprint (碳足跡) by driving an electric vehicle (EV) on their trips. On a warm, sunny day, they love to hit the road without the drone (嗡嗡的聲音) of a gas-guzzling (耗油的) engine so they can fully enjoy nature.Another advantage of EVs is that we may find ourselves stopping for a while to recharge in a place we perhaps never imagined visjye.aiing.It "presents a perfect opportunity to stop and smell the roses",wrote Novel-Travel.
Getting under the stars. When was the last time you looked at the stars twinkling in the sky? Thanks to the increasing number of designated (指定的) dark-sky parks, travellers can now combine seeing a new place with viewing the stars. So what makes us feel so interested in looking into the skies?
