If you have already visited this cultural site，you would have noticed that the terracotta soldiers have broad foreheads，small eyes.They and their war horses together made up a great terracotta army.
The story goes back to the Warring States Period.At that time，China was divided into several states.The states were often at war with one another.About 2，200 years ago，Ying Zheng，king of the Qin Dynasty，was finally able to unify（統(tǒng)一） all of the states.Later，he ordered people to build his tomb（墓穴） and a terracotta army to guard it.The workers used clay（黏土） to make the terracotta soldiers and horses.The "guarding" army was built in the model and style of the Qin army.
In 1974，locals in Xi'an discovered the site of the tomb after trying to dig wells in the area.The whole site of the tomb covers about 20，000 square meters.So far，more than 8，000 terracotta soldiers and horses have been found.People have also found thousands of bronze weapons（青銅兵器） at the site.Some of the weapons are still very sharp even after having been buried for over 2，000 years.
