Qinqiang Opera（秦腔） is one of the oldest Chinese Han dramas and it started from the western Zhou dynasty.On May 20，2006，the government approved it in the first group of national intangible cultural heritage（國家非物質(zhì)文化遺產(chǎn)）.Qinqiang Opera is popular in China's northwest provinces，such as Shaanxi，Gansu，Qinghai，Ningxia，Xinjiang and other places.
It is said that the opera was called"Emperor Qin Shihuang's Opera"during the Tang dynasty（618-907）and was later renamed Qinqiang Opera.It first started from local folk songs and dance forms in the Yellow River Valley.At the turn of Ming and Qing dynasties，businessmen from Shaanxi brought Qinqiang Opera to East China，Central China and South China.After that，it became a major opera all over the country.
The themes of Qinqiang include fighting in the wars，the fight between the good and the bad，the fight against oppression（壓迫），and a number of other topics of strong human characters that show the honesty，hard work and bravery of the local people.
Qinqiang Opera is the spiritual wealth of people of Northwest China and also the typical of the three Qin cultures.However，since the 1980s，Qinqiang Opera has been suffering from the great influence of modern culture.The number of the Qingiang works was over 10.000 in the past.But only about 4，700 works are left today.This valuable performing art is facing extinction（消亡） and is therefore awaiting practical actions to save it.
