Illustrator（插畫師） Lu Mei，also a qipao lover，has been creating paintings of a woman in qipao for years.Her recent book Cheongsam with beautiful illustrations tell show the style of the dress has changed in the past 100 years.
Lu Mei has been interested in qipao since she read a book by famous writer Zhang Ailing （1920-1995）.In 2007，when she was asked to draw the illustrations for a book by Zhang Ailing and the clothes in the book，Lu agreed and started her research on the dress.According to some books，people first wore qipao in the late 1910s and it looked like the robes which were long and wide and only worn by men at that time.In the 1930s，the dress was made into a different style — slimmer cuts（較修身的裁剪） and higher splits（開叉）.
