16. An international team of researchers has revealed new evidence for the possible existence of liquid water beneath the south polar ice cap of Mars.
The researchers, led by the University of Cambridge, used spacecraft laser-altimeter (激光高度計) to measure the shape of the upper surface of the ice cap to identify its patterns in height. They then showed that these patterns match computer model predictions for how a body of water beneath the ice cap would affect the surface.
Their results agree with earlier ice-penetrating radar (穿冰雷達) measurements that were originally interpreted to show a potential area of liquid water beneath the ice. There has been debate among scientists over the liquid water interpretation from the radar data alone, with some studies suggesting the radar signal is not due to liquid water.
The results provide the first independent line of evidence, using data other than radar, that there is liquid water beneath Mars' south polar ice cap.
"The combination of the new evidence, our computer model results, and the radar data makes it much more likely that at least one area of liquid water beneath the ice cap exists on Mars today, and that Mars must still be geothermally (地熱) active in order to keep the water beneath the ice cap liquid." said Professor Neil Arnold, who led the research.
Like Earth.Mars has thick water ice caps at both poles, roughly equivalent in combined volume to the Greenland Ice Sheet.Unlike Earth's ice sheets, however, which are underlain by water-filled channels and even large lakes beneath the ice cap,the polar ice caps on Mars have until recently been thought to be frozen solid all the way to their beds due to the cold Martian climate.
The analysis revealed a 10~15 kilometre long, wave shaped surface comprising a depression and a corresponding raised area. This is similar in scale to surface areas over the lakes beneath the ice cap on Earth.
(1)What is spacecraft laser-altimeter aimed to do?
A.To test chemicals in water.
B.To adjust the computer model.
C.To map the surface of the ice cap.

A.They firmly believed it.
B.They held different views.
C.They reached a conclusion.
D.They ignored the practice.
(3)What can we know about the ice caps on Mars from the new study?
A.They are only found at the south pole.
B.They are frozen solid to their beds.
C.They are shaped by ground lakes.
D.They are similar to those on Earth.
(4)Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.An Unexpected Field in Space Studies.

Yi Xiaomei,an official at the Yichang Blood Center, said there are more than 400 regular blood donors in the city. "They have made great contributions to blood donation in the city," Yi said. "Zhang Bi,as a typical example, tries her best to guarantee the quality and quantity of blood." 33.閱讀下面材料,根據其內容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構成一篇完整的短文。
My heart beat wildly as I stared at my phone screen.I re-read the message from my friend,Jane.Someone had upset her by sharing her personal news:she had been refused by her dream school.Jane had shared the sad news with only a few people. She didn't know who let the word out,but she was really hurt and disappointed.
I felt so bad.I knew how the news had gotten out because I had been the one to tell someone beyond her closest friends.Honestly,I hadn't realized she meant to keep it so close to only a few in the first place, but at the same time I'd known it wasn't a good idea when I started to tell it to someone else.
Did she really not know it was me?It would have been easy to admit what I had done and apologize if her message put the blame, specifically,on me.But it read as though it had been copied and sent to several people.Once again ignoring the right choice,I chose the coward's (懦夫) way out instead.
"I'm so sorry for what happened to you," I typed. "How awful that your confidence was broken!"
I hoped that would work. Her reply came back within seconds: "Thank you."
"It would be okay for me to remain anonymous (匿名),wouldn't it?" I thought to myself.
But,deep down,I knew I'd been the one to break faith and hurt her.I was ashamed, not only of my original action, but also because I'd taken a further step in the wrong direction by covering it up.
I felt painful at church on Sunday, sitting in silence all the time.Later, the speaker asked us to examine ourselves and see if anything stood in the way of holding on to our faith, and if so,not to let anything stop us until we cleared it away.Chancing it all — whatever we feared, whatever held us back — would be worth it to make it right.
注意:
(1)續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應為150左右;
(2)請按如下格式在答題卡的相應位置作答。
