The 60-minute nap Stage 3 sleep is a time for your body to repair tissue, strengthen the immune(免疫)system and recharge energy stores. But waking up during this phase can make you feel uncomfortable and sleepy,Mednick says. Most people start to move out of Stage 3 after around 60 minutes, which makes it a good time to set your alarm. 13.Seventy years ago,a group of well-known people from the art world headed by an Austrian conductor decided to hold an international festival of music, dance and theatre in Edinburgh. The idea was to reunite Europe after the Second World War.
It quickly attracted famous names such as Alec Guinness,Richard Burton,Dame Margot Fonteyn and Marlene Dietrich as well as the big symphony orchestras(交響樂團).It became a fixed event every August and now attracts 400,000 people yearly.
At the same time, the "Fringe" appeared as a challenge to the official festival.Eight theatre groups turned up uninvited in 1947,in the belief that everyone should have the right to perform, and they did so in a public house disused for years.
Soon, groups of students firstly from Edinburgh University, and later from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge,Durham and Birmingham were making the journey to Edinburgh each summer to perform theatre by little-known writers of plays in small halls to the local people.
Today the "Fringe",once less recognised, has far outgrown the festival with around 1,500 performances of theatre, music and dance on every one of the 21 days it lasts. And yet as early as 1959,with only 19 theatre groups performing, some said it was getting too big.
A paid administrator was first employed only in 1971,and today there are eight administrators working all year round and the number rises to 150 during August itself. In 2004 there were 200 places housing 1,695 shows by over 600 different groups from 50 different countries.More than 1.25 million tickets were sold.

14. Rainforests provide much of the world's oxygen.People have been trying to protect them for years. But another type of forest, the cloud forest,is just as important to humans.
These forests are at the tops of mountains, generally near the equator (赤道).These wet, wooded mountaintops are mainly in African and Central and South American countries. They are called "cloud forests" because their height allows for the formation of clouds among the trees. The trees in these forests pull water out of the clouds. The water gathers on the leaves and falls into small rivers below, which flow into towns at the bottom of the mountain. The yearly rainfall in these areas is about 180 centimetres.Cloud forests can pull in up to 60 percent of that. The water is important to the plants and the people in the area.It helps them survive.
Cloud forests are also home to countless species of plants that can't be found anywhere else. One small cloud forest has as many types of plants as there are in all of Europe. In fact, there are so many that scientists haven't made a complete list of them yet.
These forests are being destroyed at an increasing speed.Trees are being cut down, and roads are being built in their place. Some people have a goal to get government money to protect the forests. But they have had little success so far.Another way is to take the place of the destroyed plants with new ones. That, too, has been difficult because the plants are so special. There's plenty of work to be done, but saving the cloud forests is still possible with creative solutions.
(1)Where can you probably find cloud forests?
A.In North America.

Just now,his Creative Learning teacher,Mrs.Griswell asked them to be prepared to share their favorite hobby with the class on Friday. And they were supposed to bring samples for show.

On the bus,Chris heard others talking about the "hobby thing".Brian said he was going to bring his bowling trophies(保齡球獎杯).Chris turned back around in his seat so he wouldn't have to talk to him anymore.
"Don't believe him," Nick whispered. "He's the worst bowler I've ever seen.He borrows the trophies from his dad,I guess. He's rally fake."

He chewed his sandwich slowly, thinking of Grandma. She was the reason he'd gotten interested in his hobby in the first place."You have talent," Grandma had told him proudly, admiring his work. And that felt really good.
