It all began when Moore visited a bank with her dad.On the outing, she was offered a candy bar. However, her dad reminded her that sugary treats were bad for her teeth. But Moore was sick of missing out on candies. So she desired to get round the warning,"Why can't I make a healthy candy that's good for my teeth so that my parents can't say no to it?"With that in mind,Moore asked her dad if she could start her own candy company. He recommended that she do some research and talk to dentists about what a healthier candy would contain.
With her dad's permission, she spent the next two years researching online and conducting trials to get a recipe that was both tasty and tooth friendly. She also approached dentists to learn more about teeth cleaning.Consequently, she succeeded in making a kind of candy only using natural sweeteners, which can reduce oral bacteria.
Moore then used her savings to get her business off the ground.Afterwards, she and her father secured their first business meeting with a supermarket owner, who finally agreed to sell Moore's product-CanCandy.
As CanCandy's success grows,so does Moore's credibility as a young entrepreneur.Moore is enthusiastic about the candy she created, and she's also positive about what the future might bring. She hopes that every kid can have a clean mouth and a broad smile.
Meanwhile, with her parents' help,Moore is generally able to live a normal teenage life.Although she founded her company early on in life, she wasn't driven primarily by profit.Moore wants to use her unique talent to help others find their smiles. She donates 10% of AilieCandy's profits to Big Smiles. With her talent and determination,it appears that the sky could be the limit for Alice Moore.

12.There's a new frontier in 3 D printing that's beginning to come into focus:food.Recent development has made possible machines that print, cook, and serve foods on a mass scale. And the industry isn't stopping there.
Food production
With a 3 D printer,a cook can print complicated chocolate sculptures and beautiful pieces for decoration on a wedding cake. Not everybody can do that - it takes years of experience, but a printer makes it easy.A restaurant in Spain uses a Foodini to "re-create forms and pieces" of food that are "exactly the same," freeing cooks to complete other tasks. In another restaurant, all of the dishes and desserts it serves are 3 D-printed,rather than farm to table.
Sustainability(可持續(xù)性)
The global population is expected to grow to 9.6 billion by 2050,and some analysts estimate that food production will need to be raised by 50 percent to maintain current levels.Sustainability is becoming a necessity.3 D food printing could probably contribute to the solution. Some experts believe printers could use hydrocolloids (水解膠體) from plentiful renewables like algae(藻類)and grass to replace the familiar ingredients(烹飪原料).3 D printing can reduce fuel use and emissions.Grocery stores of the future might stock "food" that lasts years on end, freeing up shelf space and reducing transportation and storage requirements.
Nutrition
Future 3 D food printers could make processed food healthier.Hod Lipson,a professor at Columbia University, said,"Food printing could allow consumers to print food with customized nutritional content, like vitamins. So instead of eating a piece of yesterday's bread from the supermarket, you'd eat something baked just for you on demand."
Challenges
Despite recent advancements in 3 D food printing, the industry has many challenges to overcome.Currently, most ingredients must be changed to a paste(糊狀物) before a printer can use them, and the printing process is quite time-consuming,because ingredients interact with each other in very complex ways.On top of that, most of the 3 D food printers now are restricted to dry ingredients, because meat and milk products may easily go bad. Some experts are skeptical about 3 D food printers, believing they are better suited for fast food restaurants than homes and high-end restaurants.
(1)What benefit does 3 D printing bring to food production?
A.It helps cooks to create new dishes.
B.It saves time and effort in cooking.
C.It improves the cooking conditions.
D.It contributes to restaurant decorations.
(2)What can we learn about 3 D food printing from Paragraphs 3?
A.It solves food shortages easily.
B.It quickens the transportation of food.
C.It needs no space for the storage of food.
D.It uses renewable materials as sources of food.
(3)According to Paragraph 4,3 D-printed food
A.is more available to consumers
B.can meet individual nutritional needs
C.is more tasty than food in supermarkets
D.can keep all the nutrition in raw materials
(4)What is the main factor that prevents 3 D food printing from spreading widely?
A.The printing process is complicated.
B.3 D food printers are too expensive.
C.Food materials have to be dry.
D.Some experts doubt 3 D food printing.組卷:3引用:1難度:0.6 -

One day,Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home.It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed,so he begged his sister to keep it secret.Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes.Zahra's school hours were in the morning,so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali.He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon.Although he ran as fast as he could,Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes,he decided to take part.He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
