2023-2024學(xué)年廣東省揭陽市高二(下)期末英語試卷

發(fā)布:2025/7/12 15:0:11

一、閱讀 閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的A、B、C、D 四個選項中選出最佳選項。

  • 1.When we do something,we all have our own plans. Some people are born planners.I can't claim (宣稱) to be one of that kind of people. Most of the time,I try to at least expect what might go wrong.I have taken to making lists and, although I'm not yet achieving perfection,I usually manage to achieve goals. But there are times when even the best plans do not succeed. All that is left then is to smile and to make or do something using whatever is found.
Hanukkah (光明節(jié)) came early this year, perhaps too soon after Thanksgiving to allow us to prepare well.During the first night of Hanukkah, the Hanukkah candles were nowhere to be found in the entire Dallas area where we lived.Birthday candles wouldn't work! The tall long thin candle fell in small drops. "What would our ancestors do?" I thought. "What shall I do now? That's where ingenuity comes from.Don't be nervous and worried.Never let missing candles spoil a family celebration." Later what we did find was a bag of tea lights. The long, silver bread tray became the base for our tea lights. The younger ones were wide-eyed and happy as Grandpa lit the first tea light and all recited the blessing. We sat at the dining table, happy to be together and the food was plentiful.
No matter how imperfect it is,the fact that families gather to share a special event,an event that has held meaning for so many generations of families,is the meaning itself and forms the important part of the observance(儀式 ).What we need to remember, and to carry with us,is the knowledge that togetherness is much better than all other concerns.

(2)From the passage, what can we infer?

A.We should know well about our limited weaknesses.
B.We should make the most of the available resources.
C.We should get well prepared for the coming festival.
D.We should feel confident about our own abilities.
(3)What does the underlined word "ingenuity" in the second paragraph mean?

  • 2.    American scientists claim in a new study that humans need to create very Earth-like conditions to survive for long periods in space.
The study centered on issues such as dealing with gravity(重力)and oxygen in space, collecting water, developing agriculture and removing waste in space.
Life in space would require a natural ecosystem to sustain humans and their necessary equipment.Without these kinds of systems, the task will fail. One of the biggest problems for humans in space will be issues related to gravity.Humans experience lower levels of gravity in space.A lack of gravity can change the fluid(液體) pressure in living things. This can lead to health problems for humans living in space.
There is just no other place in space where there is 1 G of gravity;that just doesn't exist anywhere else in our solar system. That's one of the first problems we must solve.1 G is another term for what scientists call "normal gravity",or the gravity that exists on the Earth's surface. It can be measured as the rate of speed at which an object travels when falling to the ground.
Oxygen is another important consideration. The scientists say space agencies would need to build high-technology main and backup oxygen systems to support long-term human life in space.
        But what if they fail?
One suggestion from the study is to arrange living things to produce oxygen.Think of the hundreds of thousands of species of plants that make oxygen. That kind of system would be needed to support long-term missions in space and on planets.
The other main requirement would be a huge amount of energy from the sun,the study suggests. The scientists noted that as astronauts travel farther from the sun, they will be able to collect less and less solar energy. But they do need a lot of energy.Otherwise, powering the ecological system will be like trying to run your car on a cellphone battery.

(1)What does the underlined word"sustain" probably mean in paragraph 3?

    A.Support.
    B.Change.
    C.Challenge.
    D.Combine.
(2)What do we know about the gravity on the Earth according to the text?

    A.It is easy to recreate.
    B.It is common in space.
C.It is unique in the solar system.
D.It is hard to feel and measure.
(3)What does the study suggest doing to get oxygen in space?

    A.Making it with solar energy.
    B.Creating new living things.
    C.Producing it with equipment.
    D.Depending on plants.
(4)What will happen if astronauts fail to get enough energy from the sun?

A.Their cellphone batteries will be used.
B.Their ecological system will face great risk.
C.They'll have to get energy from other stars.
    D.They'll produce energy using oxygen.

  • 4.Several years ago, when someone used camera covers to protect against possible monitoring,it was not popular to talk about it.Today, people use various types of tapes to cover the web cameras and microphones.
There are many types of spyware that can dive into our devices and secretly spy on them, recording everything they do.Such programs may infect not only computers but also smartphones.Your data may be used by hackers who will try to request money for not exposing your private information or by companies like NSO Group who created the Pegasus spyware to "provide authorized governments with technology that helps struggle against terror and crime".
In my opinion, the described protection technique is highly overestimated.Users tape cameras and microphones due to the lack of understanding of how their devices work and how malware(惡意軟件)works.Hackers and even secret services do not have enough resources to monitor all victims using cameras or microphones. If they need to yet any information, they get it by sending a targeted malware to your device, which will not be stopped by the tapes.Such a virus will find what to steal from personal photos and videos to passwords from social networks, browser history, bank accounts and much more.
It is unwise to believe that attackers will not be able to find a way to spy on you, even if the device, discharged to zero, can still deliver data about your location, using the smartphones of the surrounding people as signal repeaters.Let us face it.jye.ai live in an era when it is extremely difficult to hide something and a piece of tape is clearly not the most useful tool in the struggle for your privacy.
Again,to be able to spy on you, attackers need to plant malware in your device. To prevent malware from entering your device,do not click suspected links and email attachments.Use strong passwords for email, social media and online banking accounts.

(1)What does the underlined word "them" in paragraph 2 refer to?

    A.Cameras.
    B.Types.
    C.Programs.
    D.Devices.
    (2)What is NSO Group?

    A.A group of hackers.
    B.A company developing spyware.
C.A group of terrorists and criminals.
    D.A company fighting against crime.
(3)Why does the author think "the protection technique is highly overestimated"?

A.People know little about their devices.
B.Hackers have no access to others.
C.It hardly prevents malware from getting privacy.
D.It can't cover the cameras completely.
(4)What is the text mainly about?

    A.Protecting privacy on devices.
    B.Rising trend of using tapes.
    C.Monitoring devices via cameras.
    D.Avoiding clicking distrustful links.

  • 5.Mindful eating focuses on wellness and how we eat,not what we eat. (1)
Generally speaking, mindful eaters tend to eat slower and more deliberately, avoiding distractions while eating, listening to their bodies' hunger and fullness cues, eating foods that are both pleasing and nutrient, and being aware of and acknowledging their response to foods.
       (2)
We find ourselves eating in the car commuting to work,at the desk in front of a computer screen,or parked on the couch watching TV.We eat mindlessly, wolfing food down regardless of whether we're still hungry or not.In fact,we often eat for reasons other than hunger—to satisfy emotional needs,to relieve stress,or cope with unpleasant emotions such as sadness, anxiety, loneliness,or boredom. (3)

Mindful eating isn't about being perfect, always eating the right things,or never allowing yourself to eat on-the-go again. (4)
Or rather,it's about focusing all your senses and being present as you shop for, cook, serve, and eat your food.
By paying close attention to how you feel as you eat—the texture and tastes of each mouthful, your body's hunger and fullness signals, how different foods affect your energy and mood—you can learn to enjoy both your food and the experience of eating.Being mindful of the food you eat can promote better digestion, keep you full with less food, and influence wiser choices about what you eat in the future. (5)

A.We eat when our body tells us to.
B.Know your body's personal hunger signals.
C.Our busy daily lives often make mealtimes rushed affairs.
D.Mindful eating is opposite this kind of unhealthy "mindless" eating.
E.Neither is it about setting strict rules for how many calories you absorb.
F.It involves paying attention to what we are thinking and feeling when we eat.
G.It can also help you free yourself from unhealthy habits around food and diet.

Tom has an aunt who lives in a far-off village. He hadn't seen her for two years and he really missed her.
Tom spent a lot of time with his aunt when he was a little boy.At that time, his parents were too busy with their work,so they sent him to his aunt.It was his aunt who took care of him for a long time.He remembered that back then a girl sometimes played with him.But he couldn't remember her clearly. After all,it had been so many years before.
Last week,Tom decided to visit his aunt. And he called her first.
"Hello,Auntie. This is Tom.How are you?" asked Tom over the phone.
        "I'm fine,Tom.Thanks.I'm just a bit lonely," said Tom's aunt.Hearing that,he knew he had made a right decision.
"I'm coming this weekend.I want to spend the weekend with you," he immediately said, thinking his aunt would be surely full of joy.
"Really? That's great!I miss you so much." his aunt said excitedly.
Tom set off on Friday afternoon. He thought he would arrive by bus in the evening, but there was an accident on the road and all the traffic was stopped for almost an hour. When he got off the bus,it was getting dark.
It's a ten-minute walk from the bus station to his aunt's house. The village had experienced a lot of changes.Tom looked around curiously.Just at that moment, another bus stopped and a girl got off the bus.The girl passed by Tom and began to walk into the village.Thinking that his aunt was waiting for him,Tom began to walk into the village, too.
He walked behind the girl. After about two minutes,it seemed that the girl noticed him.She looked back hurriedly, and then continued to walk.Moments later, the girl looked back again and then quickened her pace.
    Paragraph 1:
It seemed that the girl was a bit scared.

    Paragraph 2 :
Clearly,it frightened the girl even more.
