4.On a dark winter day in Russia in 1896,Sergei Prokofiev sat by a piano next to his mother. She was helping him compose(作曲) his first piece of music.Sergei was only five years old.
He had overheard his parents discussing a terrible famine (饑荒) in India. The picture Sergei had of those hungry people in his mind caused him to write a story,in the form of musical notes.Sergei could not read music,so he picked out a tune on the piano keys, and his mother recorded the notes.Sergei titled it "Indian Gallop".
Sergei's mother began giving him piano lessons for 20 minutes a day,and his ability grew quickly. She had a great love for music, too, and Sergei often lay awake in bed at night and listened to her play the piano.
Sergei's parents found a famous music teacher for him.The teacher shouted at Sergei when he didn't practice reading and playing music.Sergei later wrote,"I wanted to compose great musical plays, and instead I was given all sorts of boring tasks." Yet he persisted with his studies and grew up to be a great composer.
In 1936 a children's theater asked Sergei to write music that would teach children about different instruments. He was happy and wrote the piece in a week, calling it Peter and the Wolf.
Sergei's Peter and the Wolf was enjoyed by children as well as adults. The first time Sergei played the piece on the piano, the children listening to it loved it so much that they made him play the ending three extra times. He was excited.

5.O'Plerou Grebet is a 22-year-old graphic design student in Cote d'Ivoire,Africa.Everywhere he looks,he sees signs of Western influence- from the glass skyscrapers and malls lining the streets in his home city to the way his fellows speak and dress. "We are living like were Western people," he says. That even applies to the keyboard culture when his friends text using the messaging apps, they especially love to use the "tears of joy" face emoji(表情符號(hào)).So he used his design skills to create digital stickers that show what he thinks is missing:symbols of history, life and culture in Cote d'Ivoire and neighboring countries.
In 2018,he released a free pack of over 360 stickers in a mobile app called "Zouzoukwa",which means "image" in the local Bete language.Available on Android and iOS,it now has over 120,000 downloads. It's more impressive than other emoji apps, with the feature of connecting to the realities of Africans using it. "It would make their jokes even livelier," says Grebet. The stickers include traditional masks,African instruments like the djembe drum and people dressed in a variety of prints and clothing that can reflect local tradition.
Some of his favorite designs are a series of facial expressions commonly used in his area, but not available as standardized emojis. There's a woman with lips pursed, giving some serious side-eye -a sign you can use when your friend keeps you waiting long for no reason. It's common in Cote d'Ivoire and also translates across cultures,Grebet says.
The next step,Grebet says,is to try and get some of his designs into the official emoji set, where they'd reach more than 2 billion people worldwide,as usable ones on smartphones everywhere.Grebet also plans to keep traveling and expanding his experiences and his sticker pack. His designs so far are drawn from his experience and research into a few African countries.

How far would you go to help a friend?Jeremy Savage, aged 17,and Ian Marshall, aged 16,both from Canada, had their friendship tested to the limit on a recent trip to the Rocky Mountains with their parents.
On Saturday morning, the two boys decided to climb Cathedral Mountain by themselves while their parents relaxed at the campsite. After three hours, they reached the top and enjoyed the beautiful view from the mountaintop.
However, trouble began when they started the climb down.On one very dangerous part of the mountain,Ian fell three meters off the side of the path.Jeremy climbed down to where Ian was and found him badly injured and not able to move then.Jeremy had to decide what to do.He needed help but he did not want to leave his friend. He cleaned the dirt and blood from Ian's face and hands, and then tried to help Ian stand up,but Ian's right leg was hurting too much. With incredible calmness and his former experience in the mountain,Jeremy then gave Ian his food and water and let him lie on his jacket. They had to wait and hope that help would come. While they waited for help,Jeremy used his jacket and an extra shirt to keep Ian warm and they rested together.Sensing his friend's pain and anxiety,Jeremy gently comforted him and gave him constant encouragement in a determined tone.
Meanwhile,as darkness started to fall, their parents back at the campsite became very worried that the boys had not returned.Desperate tears welling up in the eyes, the mothers frantically prayed to God for their sons' safety. They got in touch with park workers and began searching for the boys.Soon more than 20 people were looking for them on Cathedral Mountain.
