11.For many kids, the Internet is at their fingertips. From computers to smartphones,a web of information is open to them.According to a new report, about three out of four kids aged 12 to 15 connect the Internet using a mobile device from time to time. Many younger kids are online too.
Julian Zeitlinger,9,from New Jersey, uses his computer to watch videos and play games. To keep him safe online, his parents monitor his web use and discuss Internet safety with him. "I ask my parents whether something is nice or bad," Julian says.
Mobile devices offer more ways than ever to share personal information. The information can be dangerous in the wrong hands.A study found that 62% of children aged 8 to 17 have had an unpleasant online experience.
Have you ever had to enter a parent's e-mail address when signing up for a website? That safety measure is there because of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).The law says sites for kids under 13 cannot collect personal information, such as a phone number or full name, without a parent's permission.
This July, the Federal Trade Commission(FTC) will update COPPA for the first time since the law was created in 1998 when there were no smart phones. The nature of the way kids get online has changed,F(xiàn)TC lawyer Phyllis Marcus said.
When the changes take effect,COPPA will apply to mobile devices and newer forms of advertising. It will expand what falls under "personal information" to include videos, photographs, and services that give users location.
COPPA doesn't cover everything that can go wrong online. That is why kids and parents need to know what to look out for and to stop and think before sharing information online.
"There is a misunderstanding that if a site is following COPPA,it is totally safe," says privacy expert Shai Samet. He runs kidSAFE,which checks whether a site meets kidSAFE standards and is safe. "It's important that kids know how useful the Internet is but that it also can be dangerous if you are not careful." he adds.
(1)Julian's parents check his web use to make sure
A.he doesn't watch too many videos
B.he doesn't play computer games
C.he controls his online time
D.he stays safe on the Internet
(2)What's one of the changes with COPPA?
A.It broadens the concept of personal information.
B.It prevents users from making their location public.
C.It covers everything that goes wrong online.
D.It says no to any kind of advertising.
(3)People often hold the wrong idea that
A.formal websites are always safe
B.the Internet is becoming safer and safer

13.After a long day under the beating sun,an ice cream might be a tempting treat. But would you be able to enjoy it if you knew it was made from insect "milk?" Gourmet Grubb,a food company,is hoping to use ice cream to introduce the public to the world of eating insects. Its ice cream uses EntoMilk,a dairy altenative made from insects known as the black solider fly, which is full of nutrients and friendly to farm and produce. "The ice cream flavors include chocolate, peanut better and Christmas spices. We set out to change the way insects were seen, produced and used in the food industry," said Leah Besa, who co-founded Gourmet Grubb in 2017, "We were expecting a lot of push back. However, people said the first bite was not a taste of disgust but a pleasant surprise and they couldn't wait to have one more. "
According to Bessa,EntoMilk has "a slightly taste of earth" and gives the ice cream "a rich, creamy taste. "The insect "milk" ice cream is made with natural ingredients, such as raw honey, cocoa, spices and organic peanut jye.aiter.But it's not just about the taste— Bessa says the inset "milk" is also high in nutrients that are comparable to fish and meat like beef, chicken, and pork.EntoMilk is five times higher in protein than dairy.
"Insects need very little water, fed and space to grow," Bessa explained, "They also produce little or no greenhouse gases compared to traditional livestock(家畜). "Insects can be farmed indoors in small, controlled environments and they can be raised in urban areas, reducing the time of transporting the milk to the cjye.aiy.It also means they are less at risk of being impacted by outer climate patterns, which would affect cattle and crops. There is also potential for insect farming to reduce waste.
The United Nations predicts that the world will need to double food production to feed the global population by 2050 and has long promoted insect farming as a sustainable alternative protein source to traditional livestock.Although over 1,900 insect species are estimated to be consumed by humans worldwide, insects are yet to reach the mainstream of Western cuisine.

14.The hike to the lost Incan city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru. From the town of Cachora, which is 161km west of Cusco,it's an 18km walk to Capuliyoc Mountain, then down to Playa Rosalina, where travellers camp for the night.Waking early, travellers then have to cross the Apurímac River and walk uphill to camp close to the ruins. Then, the next morning,it's another 2km walk up to the ruins,3,100 m above sea level. To get back?Well,it's the same way you came.
"I've had people in their 60s and 70s do it," said Juan Barrios,a guide from the Adventure Life company. "But some people come out thinking that because it's only 28km from the drop off they can do it in a day.Six or seven days for the hike is best."
It makes sense, then, that Choquequirao draws only about 30 people a day during the high season(June through August).Compare that to the 2,500 people who arrive each day at the famous Incan city of Machu Picchu.
But for those who make the journey, the rewards(回報(bào))are great:beautiful mountain views at every turn, and the chance to explore the wonderful ruins nearly alone.
Believed to be created around the same time as Machu Picchu,in 1445,Choquequirao is actually larger than better-known Machu Picchu. But very little has been written about Peru's other lost city and researchers are still uncovering new parts of the ruins, leaving life on the mountain relatively untouched.
But officials say that the building of the first cable car(纜車(chē))to Choquequirao will shorten the several-day walk to a 15-minute cable car ride.As a result, the number of travellers that now make the journey each week could turn into 3,000 visitors per day.
Choquequirao is beautiful now because of how untouched it is.Even though the lost city was discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Arias Díaz in 1710,the ruins still make you feel as though you're the first to find them. Will it be the same when more travellers flood in (大量涌入)?
(1)What does the first paragraph centre on?
A.How tall Choquequirao is.
B.How to get to Choquequirao easily.
C.What great views Choquequirao has.
D.How hard the trip to Choquequirao is.
(2)In what way is Choquequirao different from Machu Picchu?
A.Choquequirao is older.
B.Choquequirao is quieter.
C.Choquequirao is smaller.
D.Choquequirao is better known.
(3)How are the ruins of Choquequirao?
A.They're still being dug out.
B.They're in a generally poor condition.
C.They're being renewed at the moment.
D.They've been researched internationally.
(4)What does the author think of Choquequirao in the future?
A.It will be more attractive.
B.It will develop at a slow speed.
C.It won't necessarily take a turn for the better.
D.It won't be more popular than Machu Picchu.組卷:105引用:4難度:0.5

A funny thing happened to Arthur when he was on the way to work one day.As he walked along Park Avenue near the First National Bank,he heard the sound of someone trying to start a car.He tried again and again but couldn't get the car moving.Arthur turned and looked inside at the face of a young man who looked worried.Arthur stopped and asked, "It looks like you've got a problem."
"I'm afraid so.I'm in a big hurry and I can't start my car."
"Is there something I can do to help?" Arthur asked. The young man looked at the two suitcases in the back seat and then said, "Thanks. If you're sure it wouldn't be too much trouble, you could help me get these suitcases into a taxi."
"No trouble at all.I'd be glad to help."
The young man got out and took one of the suitcases from the back seat. After placing it on the ground,he turned to get the other one.Just as Arthur picked up the first suitcase and started walking,he heard the loud noise of an alarm.
It was from the bank. There had been a robbery!
Park Avenue had been quiet a moment before. Now the air was filled with the sound of the alarm and the shouts of people running from all directions.Cars stopped and the passengers joined the crowd in front of the bank.People asked each other, "What happened?" But everyone had a different answer.
Arthur, still carrying the suitcase, turned to look at the bank and walked right into the young woman in front of him.
She looked at the suitcase and then at him.Arthur was surprised. "Why is she looking at me like that?" He thought."The suitcase! She thinks I'm the bank thief!"
Arthur looked around at the crowd of people. He became frightened, and without another thought,he started to run.
