13.Metin Sitti at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart,Germany, and his colleagues have developed tiny robots called "microrollers" that can carry cancer drugs and selectively target human breast cancer cells. The team drew inspiration for the design of the robots from white blood cells in the human body, which can move along the walls of blood vessels(血管) against the direction of blood flow.
The microrollers are round and made from glass microparticles. One half of the robot was coated with a thin magnetic nanofilm(磁性納米膜)made from nickel and gold. The other half was coated with the cancer drug as well as molecules that recognize cancer cells.
The team tested the robots using mouse blood and artificial channels lined with human endothelial cells - the kind of cells that line the inner walls of our blood vessels. The robots were exposed to a mixture of cancerous and healthy tissue(組織).The microrollers selectively attached to the cancer cell sand were activated using UV light to release the cancer drug.
By applying magnetic fields, the team was able to control the movement of the microrollers, both with and against the flow of blood. The microrollers can reach a speed of up to 600 micrometers per second. "If you come to a spot where you need to take the right path and if miss it,then you could go back and go to the right one," says Setti.
In future, the researchers want to use other methods to start the drug release, such as heat. They also plan to try making microrollers out of materials that would break down in the body over a few weeks or months.
The team hopes to test the microrollers in animals soon. "The rollers need to carry enough cancer drugs, which is why we need to have them in large numbers," says Setti. "But since we can locally take drugs to the right target,we don't need huge dosages (劑量)."
(1)What can the microrollers be used for?
A.Repairing blood cells.
B.Delivering drugs.
C.Improving blood flow.
D.Performing operations.
(2)What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us about the microrollers?
A.Their shape.
B.Their advantage.
C.Their design.
D.Their application.
(3)What can we learn about the robots from Paragraph 4?
A.Their direction can be adjusted.
B.They might miss the target cells.
C.They might get stuck in the blood.
D.Their speed can change automatically.
(4)What will the scientists probably do next?
A.Put the microrollers to clinical use.
B.Sell the microrollers in large quantities.
C.Tear the microrollers down in the body.
D.Experiment with the microrollers further.組卷:1引用:1難度:0.5 -
14. Washing machines and fridges will be labelled with their carbon footprint as part of efforts to promote greener products and bring down carbon emissions(排放).
UK government want to introduce a system in which products would be labelled to show how much greenhouse gases had been given off while making the product.Officials favour a system in which labels describe the product's emission figure along with a ranking, such as from A to G.A rating of A would represent a"zero emission"product.
In consultation papers published earlier, the government said: "The combination of the emissions figure and ranking system could give a simple way to find out the best products,as well as the raw data needed to make more detailed comparisons." Officials hope the labelling would encourage people to buy greener products, helping to bring down carbon emissions.
The government has not set out which products the emission figures would apply to,but it is likely to eventually apply to products whose production process involves significant emissions, such as heavy goods involving steel or plastic.
The proposal is among several steps by the government to encourage UK companies to cut their emissions, alongside wider measures to boost clean energy supplies.
Officials are also considering introducing new import taxes to protect UK factories from being affected by cheap imports from competitors.Under the proposals, imported goods without costs for going green would face extra taxes. The potential so-called carbon border taxes are aimed at protecting areas such as steel and chemicals.
Matthew Germain,an expert in British Environmental Law,said the measures would mean the UK was"at least keeping step with the European Union (EU)".The EU reached a deal in December of 2022 to charge carbon taxes on imports of iron and steel, and electricity.Countries will not be affected if they have same climate change policies to the EU.
(1)What new information will be added to labels of products?
A.Their raw materials.
B.Consumers' ratings.
C.Amount of carbon emission.
D.Advantages and disadvantages.
(2)What is the purpose of the new labelling system?
A.Help consumers save money.
B.Promote eco-friendly choices.
C.Improve production efficiency.
D.Develop the country's industry.
(3)What do we know about the carbon border taxes?
A.They bring the country a step ahead of the EU.
B.They have no influence on countries of the EU.
C.They make British companies more competitive.
D.They increase the costs of imported green goods.組卷:0引用:2難度:0.5

Tom has an aunt who lives in a far-off village. He hadn't seen her for two years and he really missed her.
Tom spent a lot of time with his aunt when he was a little boy.At that time, his parents were too busy with their work,so they sent him to his aunt.It was his aunt who took care of him for a long time.He remembered that back then a girl sometimes played with him.But he couldn't remember her clearly. After all,it had been so many years before.
Last week,Tom decided to visit his aunt. And he called her first.
"Hello,Auntie. This is Tom.How are you?" asked Tom over the phone.
"I'm fine,Tom.Thanks.I'm just a bit lonely," said Tom's aunt.Hearing that,he knew he had made a right decision.
"I'm coming this weekend.I want to spend the weekend with you," he immediately said, thinking his aunt would be surely full of joy.
"Really? That's great!I miss you so much." his aunt said excitedly.
Tom set off on Friday afternoon. He thought he would arrive by bus in the evening, but there was an accident on the road and all the traffic was stopped for almost an hour. When he got off the bus,it was getting dark.
It's a ten-minute walk from the bus station to his aunt's house. The village had experienced a lot of changes.Tom looked around curiously.Just at that moment, another bus stopped and a girl got off the bus.The girl passed by Tom and began to walk into the village.Thinking that his aunt was waiting for him,Tom began to walk into the village, too.
He walked behind the girl. After about two minutes,it seemed that the girl noticed him.She looked back hurriedly, and then continued to walk.Moments later, the girl looked back again and then quickened her pace.
Paragraph 1:
It seemed that the girl was a bit scared.
Paragraph 2 :
Clearly,it frightened the girl even more.組卷:4引用:1難度:0.3
