  • 12.    Chat GPT is a new AI system that works so human-like in conversations that it could host its own radio programs.Reading between its instantly created, perfectly grammatical lines, people see different visions of the future.Without doubt,Chat GPT is impressive.
Some compare the emergence(出現(xiàn)) of Chat GPT to the impact of the iPhone, but that doesn't do it fair.Chat GPT,as well as the creative AI that will follow and outsmart it,is disruptive. And yet, that doesn't necessarily mean the end of the world is upon us.On the contrary,Chat GPT,I would argue, might serve to make us more aware of our irreplaceable human qualities.
Take the creative act, writing in particular,as an example. If you want it to,the AI-powered chatbot(聊天機器人) always produces something because it has the whole world of online data to draw from. But unlike us,it lacks the consciousness.Thinking is hard, critical(批判性的) thinking even harder, and Chat GPT isn't good at ejye.aiher.It just restates what has already been said;it is one big recycling machine.
There is another obvious limitation of Chat GPT.Philosopher Harry Frankfurt once claimed:the difference between a bullshitter(胡說八道的人) and a liar is that the liar knows what the truth is but decides to take the opposite direction;a bullshitter, however, has no idea for the truth at all.Chat GPT will reproduce misinformation from any of its input sources——it is not an intelligent system that tries to balance or weigh different ideas. In this sense, everything that Chat GPT writes is bullshit.
This is why the so-called AIQ is crjye.aiical.It is actually an extension and a measurement of our human IQ:our overall knowledge of Al tools, our mastery of information, and our ethical awareness.Chat GPT is going to change everything——and nothing.Creativity, imagination and ethics——these will all remain unique human range. It is the AI's very limitations that will make us appreciate our own.

(1)What can we learn about Chat GPT from the text?

    A.It is a liar.
B.It can decide what to read.
    C.It helps produce a man-made voice.
    D.It produces immediate language responses.
(2)What does the underlined word"disruptive" in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

    A.Costly.
    B.Useful.
    C.Ruinous.
    D.Reliable.
(3)Why does the author consider Chat GPT as a bullshit creator?

    A.It makes up lies constantly.
B.It can't tell right from wrong.
    C.It often makes deep judgement.
D.It always stands on a fair side.
    (4)What's the text mainly about?

A.Chat GPT is causing panic now.
B.Chat GPT is probable to produce bullshit.
C.Chat GPT should be treated like a toy,not a tool.
D.Chat GPT makes us realize the unique human features.

  • 13."We have Dante,Shakespeare and Du Fu(7 l2--770).These poets create the very values by which poetry is judged,"said Harvard professor Stephen Owen in Du Fu,China's Greatest Poet a BBC documentary.
Despite the fact that Du Fu is usually mentioned in the same breath as Dante and Shakespeare,he has remained largely unknown in the Western world for long. However, with the screening of the first English-language documentary feature about the poet, the days of Du Fu as China's best-kept literary secret seem to be just numbered.
It is written and presented by Michael Wood,a skilled television historian who also directed other China-related documentaries such as The Story of China (2016)and The Story of China's Reform and Opening Up(2018).
From the Yellow River to the Yangtze Gorges, and down to the forested hills of Hunan province,Wood visited a number of places such as the poet's birthplace Gongyi in Henan province and Tang Dynasty capital Chang'an,today's Xi'an.Along the way,he met and talked to ordinary people, dancers and musicians, who helped to tell the fantastic story of the poet.Interviews with famous scholars specializing in Chinese literature also helped present a clearer picture of the poet's life experiences, literary significance and his friendship with Li Bai,another great Chinese poet.
Born in 712,Du Fu lived in the Tang Dynasty,a time marked by extraordinary cultural achievements. However, after a civil unrest,Du Fu,the former civil servant at the Tang court, was forced to become a porter, and suffered from starvation.Through ups and downs, the poet never stopped writing, pouring out his concern for his-country and people as well as celebrating the simple joys of life.
"Du's poetry reflects the country's historical events mirrored in his own spiritual journey,so he becomes a part of the emotional vocabulary of Chinese culture",said Stephen Owen, who in 2016 completed the eight-year-long project to translate DuFu's 1,400 poems into English.

    .
    A.create the values of poetry
B.the West know more about Du Fu
C.keep the secrets in Du Fu's poems
D.Du Fu become one of the top 3 poets
(2)What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?

    A.Du Fu's colorful life experiences.
B.Local people's admiration for Du Fu.
C.Famous scholars' research findings on Du Fu.
D.Michael Wood's effort in making the documentary.
(3)Which of the following can best describe Du Fu?

    A.Tough and responsible.
    B.Inspiring and helpful.
    C.Easy-going and careful.
    D.Generous and hardworking.
(4)What is probably the best title for the passage?

    A.Du Fu's Poetry Wins World's Recognition.
B.Du Fu's Poems are Translated into English.
    C.BBC Documentary Reflects Chinese Culture.
    D.BBC Documentary Presents China's Shakespeare.

  • 14.As an undergraduate,my heart beat strongly whenever I raised my hand to answer questions raised by professors.I knew the material, but the thought of getting the answer wrong in front of all my classmates was frightening.Later,in graduate school,I especially feared giving presentations about my research.
Unlocking the key to my confidence was much more difficult than I expected. But perhaps I could find a creative solution that would work for me.The breakthrough came during the month before my qualifying exam—a major turning point in my Ph.D.program that caused waves of self-doubt—when I listened to a Lady Gaga album titled Joanne.I noticed it sounded completely different from her past albums. She had switched from her usual dance-pop to soft rock and country, and her clothing had changed as well.I was surprised.Lady Gaga was taking a huge professional risk, but she was confident in the music and herself.
That got me thinking:Could I do something similar before I stepped on stage? My naturally shy and quiet personality was not exactly suited to public speaking,so I thought about the image I wanted my professional self to show.I pictured a clear voice and a tall, commanding stance(站姿).I imagined myself as the expert in the room.
I experimented with the idea during a practice presentation at home.I stood next to my computer in professional clothing, speaking loudly—a sharp change from my usual practice habits, which involved sitting at my desk in pajamas(睡衣) speaking quietly. It was a promising start.I decided to give my new presenter character a try at my qualifying exam.
When I walked into the exam room,I was pleased to discover I had a newfound confidence.Sure,I was nervous, but an unfamiliar sense of calm rushed through me as soon as I began my talk.I took ownership of the work I presented. Finally,I was the expert.Since then,my presenter character has given me confidence during many talks and interviews, and I've become more comfortable taking on this role when necessary.

(1)What was difficult for the author when she was an undergraduate?

    A.Never giving up.
    B.Being confident.
    C.Giving presentations.
    D.Dealing with schoolwork.
(2)How did Lady Gaga influence the author?

    A.She changed her career.
B.She helped her find her strengths.
C.She inspired her to show a different self.
D.She improved her tastes for country music.
(3)What did the author think of her change?

A.It was too risky for her.
    B.It was challenging but worthwhile.
C.It caused her to pay a high price.
D.It made her a creative presenter.
(4)Which of the following can best describe the author?

    A.Broad-minded and polite.
    B.Independent and traditional.
    C.Determined and strong-willed.
    D.Forward-thinking and talkative.

One morning,Tammy's father told her,"The Shelby Farm is planning a hay maze this year、which means they are going to compete with us.""'Oh no!"said Tammy,"they'll take away our business!""Well,we'll just have to make ours bigger and better,"Dad suggested."Tammy, you have good social skills.I need you to go over to the farm and see what they are up to,"Dad said."Can I trust you to do a good job?""Of course you can,Dad!"she said."I'll find out what's going on and come back with a full report!"
Early the next morning,Tammy took her bicycle and went to find out information about the Shelby's plan for the maze. When she got to the farm,Mr.Shelby was staring at piles of hay in front of the barn, looking confused. In his hand was a bright orange pumpkin.
